The New Recruit
This is 6 1/2 years into my AU. Ivy and Y/N are dating. Ivy is bringing in an old friend named Cora into the team.
CW: swearing, weapons talk
---
You leaned against the armrest of the booth in the dimly lit café, your fingers loosely linked with Ivy’s under the table. She was trying to act casual, but you could tell she was watching the front door like a hawk.
“She’s late,” Ivy muttered, eyes darting toward the window. “She’s never late.”
“She’s probably being careful,” you said calmly. “You did say she’s been off the grid for almost a year.”
Before Ivy could reply, the bell over the door jingled, and a woman stepped inside—tall, lean, with tightly coiled dark hair tucked under a cap, sharp hazel eyes scanning the room. She wore worn black boots and a fitted brown leather jacket with a tear in the left sleeve. Her hand stayed close to her waist—armed, but subtle.
Your breath caught slightly.
She looked dangerous in the way Ivy did. Controlled. Precise. Someone who’d survived too much and trusted too little.
Ivy stood, a rare smile breaking across her face. “Cora.”
Cora’s face softened as she crossed the café in three long strides and pulled Ivy into a hug. “Shit, I missed you.”
“Missed you too,” Ivy said, holding on tight. “It’s been too long.”
They pulled apart, and Cora turned her gaze on you. Her eyes narrowed slightly, studying. “So. You’re the girlfriend.”
You offered a nod and a small smirk. “And you’re the mysterious ghost who used to break into military bases with Ivy for fun.”
Cora’s grin was slow and crooked. “That’s me.”
You slid over, letting her join you in the booth.
The conversation flowed quickly from there—catching up on mutual acquaintances, mission failures and glories, the changing landscape of underground dealings. Ivy explained the current structure of the gang—Everett and Miles leading, Mama Talia still quietly terrifying everyone, the younger members like Frankie and Jace rising fast.
Cora listened with a raised brow. “So you’re all legit now.”
“As legit as criminals get,” Ivy shrugged. “And we’ve got space. We’ve been talking about adding another girl. You’d be perfect.”
Cora studied Ivy for a long moment, then looked to you. “You trust her?”
You nodded. “With my life.”
That was enough. Cora leaned back, crossing her arms. “Then I’m in. On one condition.”
Ivy’s brow lifted. “Which is?”
“I want to meet the team. Properly. All of them. If I’m gonna put my life in their hands, I want to look them in the eye.”
Ivy smirked. “Deal.”

**Later that Night — The Lair**
You stood with Ivy just inside the common area, the buzz of conversation dulling as Cora stepped into the room. Everyone turned slowly, sizing her up. Everett and Miles were at the center table with Nico, Dre, and Mama Talia seated near them. Jace and Frankie were on the couch, Ari perched on the armrest with her arms crossed, Dom was leaning on the base of the pull-up bar and Layla stopped doing her pull-ups and dropped to her feet.
Cora didn’t flinch under their scrutiny.
She offered a quick nod. “Cora Vance. Explosives, infiltration, advanced close-quarters. Worked with Ivy before most of you knew what a mafia was.”
That earned a low whistle from Nico and a rare nod from Mama Talia. “She’s not lying.”
“Wait so how old does that make you? Better yet, how old does that make Ivy?” Frankie spoke up confused.
“I’m the same age as Miles, I’m 32. Cora is 34.” Frankie’s jaw drops.
“Wait Miles you’re 32!? And Ivy!? I thought you were babies.” His remark makes you giggle.
“Frankie you and I are the youngest, both in our 20s. Although that does make me wonder, how old were you and Ivy when you started working together.” You asked.
“Oh darling they were doing my runs when they were 6 years old. Not long after, Everett came into the mix and the 3 of them became the deadliest 11 year olds you would meet.” Mama Talia stated.
Everett stood and walked over. He was always calm, but you could tell he was assessing. Measuring.
“You ready to put your loyalty somewhere permanent?” he asked.
Cora met his gaze without blinking. “I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t.”
He held out his hand. “Then welcome to the family.”
“Good to be back Ev” she said taking his hand in hers.
---
**Later — Cora and You**
You walked her toward the guest quarters, giving her a brief layout of the lair.
“Ivy told me,” she said suddenly, voice low.
You blinked. “Told you what?”
“That you… regress. That you’re a little.”
Your breath caught, but she raised a hand.
“She didn’t say it like it was a problem. More like a heads-up. So I didn’t make the mistake of treating you like a soldier all the time.”
You swallowed. “Does it weird you out?”
Cora tilted her head. “You held your own in that café. You’re clearly one of the strongest on the team. So no, it doesn’t. I’ve had teammates who drank to cope. Teammates who punched walls, or disappeared for weeks. If curling up with your daddies in a onesie keeps your head on straight—sounds like you’re smarter than most.”
You laughed softly. “You’re gonna fit in just fine.”
Cora grinned. “I always do.”

(Just a sketch explaining how I can see Quillfire making and shooting his ‘quills’. His hair has to be twisted together, and when they’re released into the air, the hair hardens on impact creating a spikey projectile-
OTHERWISE HE CAN JUST USE ONE OF THESE BAD BOIS
😳😳 💯🔥 🔥 🔥
when Quillfire can’t get his dreads done he’ll use this instead- the backpack is fixed so he can release quills that way)
