just finished mag 134! the new emergence, what i've been calling "Dekker's 15th," has been explained and has a name now! And fuck it is not a name I am pleased to hear. The Extinction. It's is bad for two main reasons. First, The Extinction's avatars and adherents will actively try to create an apocalypse. Second, I'm fairly certain that the success of any ritual would strengthen it, if not bring it along. Because what all the rituals bring about is "the end of the world," so to speak. A great and terrible change. And that's what the Extinction is the fear of. And I don't have high hopes that any ritual would be reversible, but of them all, the Extinction's seems to be the worst.

One thing where I'm not sure if I missed something is in mag 134 when Peter Lucas says that only the Web and the End haven't tried a big ritual yet.

I thought it was mentioned somewhere else that only the Eye hasn't tried? And that was why everyone was now going after them.

So either I misunderstood, the characters are misinformed, or Peter Lucas lied.

Also, Martin came to Lucas after the Flesh attacked = after the end of season one? That's a lot of time for a secret project. He didn't say "after stopping the Unknowing"...

I do like seeing Martin become more assertive. I would love to see more of his inner life, but I guess we too are shut out from that right now.

Here we are with another Martin narration! What a great way to end the day. And I always enjoy when Peter Lukas shows up. I don’t know what it is about him but I feel like I would be more easily manipulated by him than Elias. Elias locks you in a cage and threatens you when you try to break free. Peter Lukas gives you the key to the cage while convincing you that it’s safer in there.

The Extinction is fascinating. I knew that there was going to be a 15th fear but I couldn’t quite place it. A lot of the fears oppose or mirror others. Since we have the End I thought it would be something like the Beginning. The fear of new situations and changes that you can’t prepare for. It’s been over 10 years since this letter was written. I wonder if the Extinction has any avatars yet?
