Training with friends
Training with friends - my rundown of this week: #loverunning #swimming
After last weekend’s Thunder Run, I intended to take this week easy, but looking back, I’ve perhaps not been as lazy as I’d intended! On Monday evening, I did my usual swimming session with Southampton Tri Club. I liked the set and really enjoyed it… but I wish that my swimming lane hadn’t been moved to the side of the pool nearest the changing rooms as the fug of aerosol deodorants can make it…

Miles of Smiles
Miles of Smiles - my last fortnight of training: #running #swimming
The last couple of weeks have been quite busy. Last Monday, I went to STC swimming training as usual. There were quite a lot of us in the session and we had some long sets to swim. I’ve not done enough swimming this year and I’m finding it quite challenging, but I managed to get 2000m done within the hour. This week felt a little better. There were only two people in Lane 2 (Kevin and Sonia), so…

Training: An Easy 5k
Training: An Easy 5k
First of all I aimed to go to Purbeck Runners club night tonight. But then I read that there was a heavy duty hill repeats session planned and with my timed mile at Magic Mile tomorrow, I didn’t want to do anything too taxing. Plus I still have a vague and general overall tiredness from Sunday’s half marathon!
So I donned my trainers for what was going to be an easy 10k, but I stupidly selected…

Happy Day!
I got together last night with some friends I hadn't seen in a while and one of them decided to join my group this morning. Yay, for running with friends! We also did a Magic Mile after a 2 mile warm-up. I haven't done one since last November because I was always either busy or traveling on magic mile weeks. Surprise, surprise - I cut off 27 seconds from my time. Really happy to know that I've made some progress especially after the disappointment of last week's race. Going for an early Mother's Day dinner tonight. Happy Saturday!
Magic mile 2013
Took part in the magic mile, a worldwide event organised by marathon talk. Basically you run a mile as fast as you can. You can do this on your own and just submit to the site or as part of an event. I did one organised by my local parkrun.
Was a bit weird approaching a 1 mile race. I wasn't sure if I could all out peg it but didn't know how to pace it if needed. I put down a predicted time of 6:30, based on me having done a 6:38 during a parkrun once. Setting off was a bit mental, everyone was gunning in, then I eased off and had alot spare for a massive sprint at the end, flying past a few people. In hindsight I could've kept a faster pace throughout. Either way I did it in 6:08 which I was very pleased with. Came in 12th out of 52 with an age grading of 60.8% which is higher than my best parkrun (58.19%). Jeff Galloways site predicts I should be able to do a 20:43 5km (PB is 22:16) so something to work towards. All other predictions are quicker than I've PB'd too.
Fun event though, deffo recommend looking for one near you or just doing your own.
