Magic Noodle
A says: So, we took a three year break, but we’re back at it - this time with a baby, a car, and a BBQ - all of which are changing the way we explore food, both in town and in kitchen. We decided to check out the Richmond Hill location of Magic Noodle sans bebe. Like their website, the space itself is modern, beautifully designed, and highly functional. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed, but the wait was only 10 minutes or so. We were the only non-Asian diners, which in my experience, tends to a be a good sign when trying a new Asian place. I got the hand-pulled noodles with roast duck and BBQ pork. The meat was tender, the noodles chewy, the broth flavourful and the portion more than satisfying, despite being the small size. We split skewers of lamb and squid (cheap and delicious) and a fried leek pancake (cheap and bland). The service is fast, if not overly friendly, and your meal will be punctuated with the intermittent pounding of the noodles being pulled although TBH, I can’t say that the hand-pulled factor made a real difference to me (although it’s cool to watch). Overall, this place will neither amaze nor disappoint. If it’s noodles you crave, it’s worth checking out. Rating: AAA
J says: There is a delightfully smell inside this room. A rich, saturated meat-humidity, vaguely lamb-y but also pork-y. It reminded me of eating in Singapore. The food is good. Very straight-ahead with few frills but executed well. I had braised beef brisket - perfectly tender and fatty in a dark broth. The pulled noodles are dense and chewy and I was completely satiated.
