Just as Max had scoffed loud enough to make himself known to one of the goblins, its ear flicking minutely, Mr Wizard had decided that that was enough. In a quick reaction of just wanting the man to shut up, Mr Wizard grabbed ahold of Max's ribboned arms and dragged him into a firm kiss.   Or: Mr Wizard sorely underestimated how much a kiss would mean to someone like Max.
