It's actually quite reasonable when you are a killer robot to assume that every interaction that goes sideways has done so because you are a killer robot. Which makes it very funny that most of those interactions went sideways for completely different reasons. 0/10 social interpretation <333
The Emperor and Ansur could have been perfect foils for Wyll's story.
Ansur, the Heart of the Gate, who stayed behind to protect the city. The Emperor, a hero, who left for just one more grand adventure. Ansur, who clung so tightly to what he believed to be right that it destroyed the thing he cared most about. The Emperor, who clung to newfound power until he could not imagine being anything else, even at the cost of his own soul.
You can see the parallels, right? Ansur's quest could have meant something important to Wyll's storyline.
But instead it doesn't. Wyll's writer never capitalizes on these parallels. Ansur doesn't even speak with the player or Wyll, only with the Emperor. And once Ansur is defeated, the Emperor tells Wyll that he's the actual Heart of Gate and Ansur totally wasn't important, dude, just get over it. And then Wyll—who had hung his hopes on having the Wyrm's help against the Absolute, who has repeatedly said the Emperor is not to be trusted, who has every reason to be not accept that shallow of an answer—swallows this bullshit without question and skips off to pick out his new hero name.
Ok I now it's been ages since I posted anything about Slay the Princess but since it sold a million copies recently it's a good opportunity to talk about a fan princess/route I was thinking about.
Slay the Princess AU Original Princess
Name: "The Speck"
Route expansion: "The Void"
Route Trigger: [Procced to the basement without the Blade] This route is triggered when the Long Quiet doesn’t pay attention to the Princess. Literally by not picking the Blade, ignoring her opinions, deflecting her words and explanations or straight up looking down on her without letting her out. The route follows up by deciding to leave but The Narrator locking you inside and tossing you the knife. By not having her able to do anything she stays put until she picks it up and stabs you, expressing her hurt in you not believing in her and diminishing her power.
**Short description: Sort of an opposite to “The Tower”. When you get to the cabin everything appears to be made of reflective surfaces, the Pristine blade soundly placed on a glass looking weak table. The Mirror STANDS out from all the rest and the hero can mention it. When you descend the staircase you see her huddled in a corner, mirror around her already broken and missing their reflections or covered in muck. The major choices here are to [Slay The Princess] [Trying Demean Her Again] [Give Her The Blade] [Talk With Her Apologize And Leave Together]. If you regard her opinions on this place pay attention to what she says and lead her out at the top of the staircase she looks at her reflection and the hands come and pick her up. If you decide to be cruel or Slay her again she attacks you and surprisingly he wins with ease based on how she can fool you and how well she can blend to the space, she ends up stealing your knife and stabbing you with it or finding a shard and killing you like that(In which point you move to “The Void”).
Voice: "Voice of the Vain"
**Short description: The Voice of the Vain is a perspective very similar to the smitten. The only contradiction being the infatuation with the princess isn't present. This voice is completely confident in the protagonists abilities and keeps inturrupting the Narrator. It looks down on the princesses abilities no matter her form, powers, intimidation or lack there of. It's a voice that has the ability to fill the body with determination and encourages the princesses destruction. It's weakness could be it's own infatuation with itself and the unwavering belief that the protagonist could do everything. He likes praise and in his route he constanly pushes for the destruction of the princess without any fear towards her actions. He’s terrified of the mirror since it could show his inadequasies or flaws but he hides the fear.
***Other possible routes of appearence: “The Razor”, “The Adversary” or “Eye of the Needle”, maybe “The Wraith”.
Physical Description (“The Speck”): Appears smaller than “the Princess”. She wear a tattered dress that clings around her in ruined frilly streams. She’s feeble and expresionless until you decide to approach her and she flinches that you realise that in the right light she almost appears to be flickering in and out of existance. She has an appearance of being almost pushed to starvation.
“The Void” Route description: You wake up again, accompanied by the voice of the Cold you encounter a world that appears to flicker in all sorts of direction as if you are inside a calidoscope every step and a different glow to your surroundings, cabin fracturing and broken shards everywhere. When you descend you find….nothing. There's supposed to be a Princess here you're sure of it but the only thing you see is bunch of tattered pieces of fabric laying on the floor. You take a cautious step forward before said pieces of fabric rise from the floor moving together in the air, flying tendrils everywhere overtaking the whole basement trying to make up the poor resemblance of the Princess' form in the center. She is not of mind anymore, she's nothing more than unfiltered invisible madness striving to make her self be seen again in any way she can, her most vital organs in-cased in a mumified chest. Of course she is too fast, too angry and just an unseeable force of nature that’s too quick to be seen or for you to react to her. As a result, she slices through you while at the same time she stretches out her form so much so that she breaks free from the cabin. At the last second you laying on the floor bleeding profusely and her ready to be witnessed for once in her life- You both get taken.
.
.
.
The swifting mound deems her as an shy heart.
You thought her to be incapable surmounting your greatness and in the end she ended up as nothing more than a speck of her former self to finally be acknowledged……Or thats the W.I.P anyways.
hallo, bonjour, salve, greetings to all. I'll be Magpie on here, with the username magpieexists on ao3 <3
-I am a writer (I say tentatively, having not posted anything in months) and this blog is the unorganised home of many of my thoughts about it. I have another blog for reblogging cool art > thesecondmagpiethatexists , but here is for random rants, writing updates lore about my upcoming fic that's under the yet to be named au tag, and some of my other fics that I have begrudgingly tucked into bed for now.
-I cannot express how much I love asks. please please please please use my box with reckless abandon, and I swear it'll make my day. might take a while to get round to, as I'm not always available, but I will answer eventually.
-I am EXTREMELY ANTI-GENERATIVE AI. Ai's uses in cancer detection and accessibility tools are admirable, but chatgpt and all its cursed siblings can die in a hole, and I will never ever use them or accept the use of them.
-In terms of acceptance, I want you to know that this is a safe place for everyone but bigots. I am part of a lot of groups that face heat from the current regimes, and I refuse to stop supporting any of my fellow humans who have it much worse, so yes, I'm a left wing extremist if you believe that that's extremist. writing is inherently political, as all real art is.
I am against all homophobia, racism, transphobia, ableism, sexism, bullying (this includes cringe culture), ect. I will always try to educate bigots, but direct any vitriol at anyone else and you will be immediately blocked.
-related to that last one, I try very hard to be nice to everyone, so please don't repay me with unkindness. Any hateful comments will be deleted, cause this is my house and I do not accept them here. If I do make mistakes, tell me please, and I promise I'll listen.
-what else do people put in these?
tags that will hopefully expand in the future:
#magpie answers << what it says on the tin. answering asks.
#yet to be named au << shockingly not what it's going to be named forever. my steampunk inspired, morally complex, worldbuilding in the tens of thousands baby.
#magpie rambles << I have used this, but I can't remember what for. hopefully it was entertaining.
#magpie updates << also what it says on the tin. updates about my works, planning, predicted release dates.
#torn paper au << posts about my aforementioned first child, who I love very much and will return to one day. it's clumsy, but I am very attached to the characters, and if you're here from there I am also very willing to answer stuff about it. I'll add more specific tags when I go back.
I love you rainbow hair I love you red eyes I love you heterochromia I love you eye scars I love you demon/angel hybrids I love you “cringey” OC’s I love you Mary Sues I love you self-inserts I love you wings and tails and horns and sharp teeth I love you people who just want to create and make stuff that makes them happy
Y’ALL I AM NO LONGER JOBLESS!!!!
It means Ill be a LOT less active here but Ill no longer be stressed about money or being stuck somewhere I dont wanna be or anything like that and Im so!!! excited!!! Its a job in an area Ive never lived before so im super hyped for the experience :D
I'm a bird secondary. If something interests me, it practically sparkles. It's shiny. And if it's shiny, then I have to have it (or at least really, really, really want it). That's how my bird secondary works (and why I'm a magpie).
Shinies can be anything: information on a subject you're passionate about, a random fact you learned in a class you're only taking for graduation requirements, music, stories, items, and even people (although it works differently for people). I find things and information that I want and I collect them before look for more like it.
And then I go up to the people I like with my shinies in my hand (metaphorically or literally) and shove it in their faces saying "look at this Shiny I found!" Cuz it's shiny and cool and I want to share that cool thing (also validation is nice, but that's besides the point). Shinies are not to be hoarded selfishly (although they are undoubtably hoarded), they are to be collected and shared freely. If someone has information that is Shiny, I will look up to them with my eyes sparkling like an anime character's and proceed to grill them for the information while doing my best to respect their boundaries.
The biggest thing (that I think can help differentiate between being passionate/having a hyperfixation/special interest vs being a bird secondary) is using those shinies. There are the obvious ways of doing so, like using stuff you already collected in a class teaching the same subject, but also less obvious ways, when the problem doesn't have to be solved using a Shiny but you do so anyways.
For example: there was a class I took that wouldn't show us our running averages. We had the grades of assignments and knew how each assignment type was weighted, but it wouldn't show us our class grade. The most obvious solution would be to pull out a calculator and plug all the numbers in. I, on the other hand, (having programming in my Shiny hoard) decided to make a program that would calculate it for me. Yeah, it took longer initially, but once it was built it was so much easier.
Here's the thing: I don't think everyone with programming knowledge would think to do that. But I went "hey, this tool can be used here" and so I used it. Choosing to use (or build) a tool to solve an open-ended problem is a bird approach, and Shinies are almost always involved in doing so.
Fellow bird secondaries, feel free to add onto this!
