There was nothing quite like the feeling of freedom, was there.. Renewed, recreated, reborn.. And he was once again feeling the world as it was. The air, the sun, the earth.. All of it. And he’d left the baggage behind. There was something about regaining his freedom that.. Well, meant he no longer needed a vessel to get about in this world.
And yet.. Somehow, there was a profound emptiness inside him too. A loss, a hollow place that.. that he couldn’t quite puzzle out. Not regarding Viren or his daughter, he knew that much. This was.. deeper. More primal.. Hm.. Odd. He was tugged out of his thoughts, however, by a sound behind him. Ears twitched gently, flicking ever so slightly back to listen. Like a cat that had heard the shuffling of prey nearby. And he turned, now staring directly at the boy.. Hm.. Viren had called him by name once, hadn’t he? Ah, yes.. Callum.
@magusarcanum in response to this post: "so, like, two of those I would probably not do... and I don't really know what to confess that you already know so..." he's trying, Zuko, "I did plan to, uh, take a walk into this nearby village for, uh, supplies... you wanna come?"
He thinks he knows exactly what “TWO” Callum is talking about— And is immensely grateful for that.
“A walk?” The most tame of any suggestions; of course his friend won’t be met with HESITATION. “Yeah—yeah, sure. We could... probably use FOOD, right? And, umm... maybe find some other things to do.”

“You’re both entirely embarrassing.” The witch remarks, hand resting on his cocked hip. “I’m beginning to see why it’s said only fools fall in love.”

『 ❝ yeah, well, I wouldn’t exactly consider you as the best candidate for it… ❞ 』
especially now, considering everything that had happened and the questions the young Prince found he was having about the man after seeing what his children were willing to do. yeah, he was not getting over that betrayal any time soon at all.
“Ah, yes, my apologies. I nearly forgot that the governance of our nation had been left in the hands of two children and a council of cowards who refuse to act without their insight.”
Viren stood from the pile of straw in the corner of the cell that functioned as his mattress. His shoulders strained a bit to remain straightened--the weight of the shackles on his wrists was something he still was growing accustomed to--but he would not allow himself to falter, to appear weak or worn down or frail. Not here, not in front of this insolent brat.
“In any case, I am indisputably the best candidate, and the fact that our esteemed ruler acknowledges that is the strongest indicator of any latent wisdom he’s shown yet. What exactly do you know about the agricultural implementations of spellcraft, Your Highness?”

Callum’s words tugged on the corner of Virens lips, forming it into a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
It was the young prince’s naivety that amused the mage to a point where he almost didn't dare to destroy the boys hopes and dreams of becoming something magical himself.
Almost.
“The magic you are talking about isn't possible to master by humans, Callum. If you are so eager to learn magic, I would advise you to join Claudia in her studies instead.”
@magusarcanum || cont. from here.
To be fair, Zuko had given him plenty of time; by his notice of the mage’s CONCENTRATION, a certain amount of slack had been cut, and though tired as he was, he stayed up long enough to keep an eye on him—to be personally responsible for FORCING him to sleep if he had to (by now, he knew it often took someone telling him to do it). Lounged back on his own bed, lax fold of his arms, Zuko offered the initial GENTLE suggestion. Thereafter turned into a real threat that—well, what came as no SHOCK—still fazed Callum at the impressive level of zero.
His brow arced a touch higher at the refusal, and with a puff of breath indicative of a SIGH, Zuko shifted to swing his feet over the edge of the bed. A soft groan marked his stretch, arms over head, before he swiveled his torso and collected the blanket he had previously been using. He crossed the room with as much nonchalance as someone not scheming to force their STUPID friend to give it a rest.
“Alright; you had your choice.” Zuko reached forward to pluck the utensil madly scribbling notes from his hands and set it back on the table (knowing better than to DAMAGE any of Callum’s work in the process). He swung the blanket out around the other, effectively wrapping him up in the soft fabric and utilizing it as a means of PINNING his arms so that he not be able to fight back.
Then, bound and easily movable, he scooped Callum up in a tight hold against his chest, carefully maneuvering not to the bed Zym was currently occupying, but his own. Plopping him down atop the cushion, one hand pressed to the boy’s shoulder to further emphasize a “Stay” he didn’t need to say aloud.
“Go. To bed. Whatever you’re working on will still be there in the MORNING.”
@magusarcanum || starter call || not accepting!
“So, uhh...” Oh, no, this wasn’t at ALL suspicious: waiting until the others were ASLEEP, proceeding to lead Callum away to somewhere more SECLUDED—without telling anyone (well, Rayla, namely... she’d LOVE this). But, really, things had been... maybe a TAD tenser between them lately, considering how they had left (okay, CORRECTION: how Zuko had left) things without any resolution to what Callum had raised. Rather, what he had CONFESSED and was now just hanging on to, having received no real response to it.
He exhaled through tightened lips once a COMFORTABLE distance away, and spent a couple moments simply FIDDLING before speaking again. “This seems like a good time to—ahhmm... well, I mean— Is it a good time—? To... talk?” That sounds ominous. Hesitantly, he met his friend’s stare. “Not about anything WRONG, just... to clear up a few things. I’m sorry I left you like that before; you didn’t deserve it.”
