fcps is fairfax county public schools in virginia, also my school district
"#closefcps" is the hashtag (that was #2 trending worldwide yesterday btw) that we have been using to get the superintendents to close schools. almost every other school district in nova has closed tomorrow, as they should. fcps has a two hour delay tomorrow. theres six inches of snow on the ground, the high temp for tomorrow is 23 degrees, the wind chill is supposed to take the temperature down to -10. there were over a hundred car accidents before 11 am today. yesterday, a bus crashed and 18 people were hospitalized. people are arriving to school 3 hours late (even with the two hour delay, they’re coming in hours after school starts). now also keep in mind that there are a lot of private schools in fairfax county with uniforms, more importantly uniform skirts, for the girls. the most you are allowed to wear under that is leggings. also lots of student drivers who aren’t accustomed to driving in the icy conditions.
"#closefcps" has been recognized by a bunch of different magazines, websites, and news programs all over the country, and people from other countries were even tweeting about it. we know tweeting won’t do much, even if it does start trending again, but its worth a shot right?
