Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive By Stephanie Land ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Between listening to the first half on audiobook and finishing the last half by reading, I started and finished this book in one day. I loved this memoir and reading about a single mother's struggle to provide for her child gave me a great dose of humility. Stephanie documented her time working as a maid (among other side jobs) where many of her clients would assume she was invisible. She wrote about her experience being called lazy and ungrateful for government assistance when she was working any jobs she could find. She did this while pursuing higher education so she could make a better life for herself and her daughter. The story was heartbreaking and eye-opening, but I loved reading about her overcoming these insane obstacles. Between abuse, she persevered all for the sake of her child. It's hard to imagine what many of us would do in her situation, but this story caused me to wonder if I could have handled myself the same way. I guess the next step is to watch it on Netflix to see how well they portrayed Stephanie's story.
