hi! so i've been considering getting into penny dreadful, is it worth the watch? i've heard people say it's great and some say it's not, so i would like to hear your opinion.
hey there! if you’re talking about the new series (city of angels) i can’t comment because i haven’t seen it (yet!), but here are my thoughts on the original series (2014-2016): to this day eva’s character, vanessa ives, is one of my all-time favourite characters. she is one of the coolest most complex characters and i love her with all my heart and eva’s performance is truly something special. the first series is a really cool emo pastiche of frankenstein, dracula and dorian gray (all of whom are really fun dramatic characters throughout the show) and its a great ensemble/found family series. second series is as good plot-wise, but trigger warning for some deeply gross transphobia in the dorian grey plotline. do yourself a favour and ignore the third series. the acting was still great but the plot is ugly and the writing is horrendous as well as incredibly racist towards native americans. overall i love the og penny dreadful series. it's my favourite victorian era period drama because its kinda a big-budget bonkers fanfic where everyone is bi with great performances. i don’t recommend the series if you’re under 18 and/or can’t stand body horror or gore or don’t like sex scenes (the first season has way too many). definitely give it a whirl if that sounds good tho! ftr if u only want to watch the original series of pd cos u want to watch city of angels, from what i read, it isn’t necessary. xxx
