This theater doesn't match the magic that is its plays, musicals, concerts, etc. The stage is the smallest in the district and wing space is puny. The storing of certain items under the stage is probably a fire hazard, but its all the space we have. The house lights turn on, sure, but they don't light the audience. In fact, one can see from the stage that the majority of the seats in the audience are not lit, but are, rather, in the dark. And the seats themselves are more uncomfortable than anything I've ever experienced; no matter what seat, springs and other poking things come through the cushion annoyingly. The theater itself seats enough people for the kids in the music programs-- or, maybe just the choir department alone. However, the kids who participate in the music programs don't often go into the theater because it can't be used for concerts: sound doesn't travel, there, like it does at our neighboring schools.

Our school has brought to the stage consistently strong performances. Among many are Into The Woods, Curtains, Alice in Wonderland, Uno Part II, The Wedding Singer and, recently, Prospect High School brought The Sparrow to the Illinois High School Theater Festival in January.

The theme of The Sparrow was to "learn to fly with the weight." Taken out of context of the play, one can apply the motto to Prospect High School, where actors have created spectacular plays and musicals for a long time without a good theater to help. However, despite that we have learned to excel with an out-of-shape theater, it's time that there's a change because the theater, as it is, cannot survive for much longer.
