you ever think about how dennis was probably the one who started the tradition of giving valentine’s day cards like he and dee probably frequently exchanged gifts and cards for birthdays and other special events because as kids all they had was an absent father who just straight up refused to get them gifts ever again one christmas morning and a mother who never should’ve been so they used their money to get each other little things to make holidays special but then one day it was clear to dee that their mom favored dennis and abhorred her so their kinship suffered and she began to resent him and that’s how store-bought cards and gifts became insults sprinkled with glitter and pranks in a box and she found it easier to hurt others than to be vulnerable and love because it kept her safe and strong and one day she just stopped giving dennis cards and gifts altogether and he resented her for that and started ditching her more to hang out with charlie and mac and one day he tried to salvage what he once had by casually giving them valentine’s day cards and charlie didn’t really understand what dennis was trying to say in his card because he can’t read and he was high as shit all through high school so he forgot to give something back, and mac gave dennis free weed as a gift but didn’t say it was a gift because he was wrapped in layers of internalized homophobia and dennis didn’t know it was a gift because mac had already been giving him free weed all the time and just didn’t realize. so he felt hurt and underappreciated and he stopped it with the cards and the gift giving of any kind and when dee spread the habit of giving each other hurt and pain on valentine’s day he didn’t participate and he didn’t get anything back so it hurt and it kept hurting, he felt excluded, and it got worse and worse every year he kept it all bottled up and in tends bar he exploded but then mac walked in with the most meaningful gesture he had always craved, completely unprompted, and after he reveled in how good it felt he began to feel scared of the very thing he’d always wanted because mac’s feelings were too blatant and it was too much and he couldn’t accept that he needs everything mac wants to give and that’s why he ran

Gotta write some tavern ambiance

Thorn’s just drinking by his lonesome while he waits for others to show up. Not sure who else is hanging around at the place. Anyone have some vague thoughts I can adapt?
