Beneath lies a never ending sea of green. A deep, dark green like the colour of pine needles in the rain accompanied by a profound sense of calm. I felt a moments temptation to unclip from my tow float and to breath out, sinking and letting the darkness below surround me like the hug of a lover. Then my foot brushed passed a piece of pond weed and the romanticism died! I need an @suzannaswims guided swim I think. I find Lakes I've not been in before scarier than ones I have 🤔 Ullswater is a dark brown lake with a slight tint of green. The water seems clear yet it eats the light of the sun and the weeds below the surface loom out of the dark watery abyss like the hands and fingers of hidden beasts desperately reaching out for the light. Can't say it was pleasant to go in but I feel like I've made up a tiny. It of old ground and done it alone. This is the hardest bit of #projectbigswim. I have to make friends with this fear on my own. Oh well... When this pops up in your inbox!? #projectbigswim prep just got a bit more serious. Can't wait to lose the use of my upper body after some training 😂 Big thanks to @haikurunner for the quick swim pointers and the help in getting #swimfit before I set off next year. . I have to make some big decisions about the project before any public announcements or definite, since I have to be realistic with the time it'd take, cost of safety crew, nutrition, equipment and possible media coverage but either way, it'll be a very long and self-supported swim. Even more excited to have had a good discussion with @conway_sean and have his support on the planning. On a side note, check out Paula McGuire on Twitter. Weirdly, she is planning the same thing as I am (but supported) and for the same (ridiculously similar) reasons?! #makefearyourfriend #swimmingsucks

Now to be a bit more positive... #Repost @suzannaswims (@get_repost) ・・・ Last night at Wastwater. Aleks sizing up the swim across to the Screes. It's half a mile, or thereabouts, over the deepest and coldest water in the Lakes. And then you have to swim back. It's fairly daunting even for experienced swimmers. It was an honour and a pleasure to support @barefootaleks in facing his fear. Well done that man! Next stop end to end 😱 #projectbigswim #facethefear #swimmingsucks #makefearyourfriend
