This week at a LoK writers' Discord server (you know who you are and you're awesome!) I shared the Five Sentence prompt exercise (available here) and so we shared prompts, and I must admit I surprised myself in a good way. You see, I've been in such a low point creatively as of lately that my expectations even for a simple exercise like this were rather low and I believed I wouldn't be able to participate, let alone write. It seems there's still a bit of creative spark in me that refuses to die, because I did write, and I honestly feel so glad about it that I wanted to share my assigned prompts. It's not much but it's honest work to me it means a lot. So if you're curious about it or are interested in bite-sized morsels for Korvira, Kuvirasami and Makovira, then read on:
32. Do you regret it? (Korvira)
Korra's heart still pounded quickly against her ribcage as her feet traversed the dank hallway on their own volition. She winced, the sudden brightness reminding her eyes she was no longer surrounded by the oppressive darkness of prison, and despite the welcoming caress of a soft breeze against her skin, she felt a dull ache settling deep within. Kuvira’s voice still rattled insistently inside her mind with a simple question:
“Do you ever regret it, saving me?”
“Never, because I…” was the answer Korra wanted to scream but instead she swallowed it, and the tears she fought to suppress now ran freely down her cheeks.
9. I'll take care of it (Makovira)
“I told you these guys were more dangerous than they appeared!” Mako grumbled irritatedly as he watched Kuvira remove the metal bands around his wrists and ankles.
“I might've underestimated them,” Kuvira admitted sheepishly. For all her sharp intuition, she still had to match Mako's gut instinct forged out of his street smarts on the city's myriad criminal gangs and general assortment of delinquents.
The detective sighed, rubbing his now free hands as he regarded her concerned expression.
“What are we going to do now?”
“Don't worry Vira” Mako replied reassuringly as he placed a discreet peck over his girlfriend's cheek. “I'll take care of it; no, we'll take care of it.”
36. You need me (Kuvirasami)
Asami wiped the sweat that beaded over her forehead, leaving an unflattering smudge of dirt over it as she glared at the disassembled biplane instrument panel that hours ago had been the culprit for an emergency landing still miles away from her destination.
“I don’t get it, I’ve run every diagnostic in the book, and I still can't figure out what’s wrong with this!” she muttered frustrated as she felt the gears inside the brain grinding to overdrive.
“I know you won't hear any of it, Sato, but you need me. Sensing disturbances in metallic components is sort of my thing and I’m sure the last thing you’d like is to spend the night outdoors saddled with my company,” Kuvira commented from the passenger seat of the small aircraft, the platinum chains still binding her to the plane, and a knowing grin curving her lips.
With every instinct wishing she could instead zap her again, Asami instead sighed loudly in defeat and forced herself to respond: “you’re right, I need your help, but don’t get used to it.”
13. Is that a challenge (Choices Kuvirasami)
“I ought to fire whoever came up with the idea of reviving the custom of wearing ceremonial robes for the annual address to the National Delegates Council,” Kuvira grumbled as she attempted to adjust the long silk sash wrapped around the intricately decorated tunic that denoted her status as head of state.
“I think you might be a bit late for that because the custom hails back to the days of Earth King Feishan,” commented Asami visibly amused at her wife’s disagreements with ancient customs, watching her struggle to raise her arms above her waist in a futile attempt to loosen up the garments.
“It’s going to take forever for me to take this thing off after I’m done!”
Asami stood up and surrounded her waist from behind as she leaned in and whispered to her ear:
“Is that a challenge, Madam President? Because if that’s the case, I would love to lend you a hand in your predicament.”
