When it comes time to have sex, Alear and Diamant decide to do it in Diamant’s rooms. Diamant isn’t full comfortable with the idea of having sex on the holy altar (he might not be super religious, but even that is crossing a line for him) and Alear knows that in his room they run the risk of someone coming in to wake him up. Diamant’s rooms, on the other hand, is comfortable, not a holy altar, and private so perfect.

However, it isn’t as private as either one of them thought. See Diamant didn’t know Alcryst would sneak into his room occasionally to make sure he was still alive. He knew Alcryst did it as a child, but assumed he had grown out of the habit. So one early (to Diamant and Alear) morning, Alcryst walks in and discovers them in bed together. Diamant and Alcryst can’t look each other in the eye for about three days.
