Surprise Inspection || Lucius & Alice || March 28th, 1979
Alice sent the last report off with the ministry owl and smiled, sitting back. All in all it had been a fairly productive day, and that made her feel not just accomplished, but a little brazen. She checked her watch, chewing her bottom lip thoughtfully. Technically she could call it a day and go home. She put in more than enough hours that slipping out a little early wouldn’t hurt anything, but there was no reason to go home early. Frank was still out on patrol, and besides, she had too much energy to just go home and read a book.
However she did have just enough time to stop by a certain suspected death eater’s shop. It wasn’t harassment if there was suspicion, and she didn’t care how shiny and clean Malfoy presented himself, the man was as dirty as a sewage drain in Knockturn Alley. Unfortunately there was never any proof. That was the advantage to money she supposed. It could buy freedom if used in the right places. She smiled, anticipation snaking down her spine. A surprise inspection sounded like just the thing. Standing she grabbed up her coat, cinching it into place before picking up her gloves and wand.
“Hey, where you off too?”
She glanced at Sherman. “Thought I’d do an inspection before calling it a night since I have about an hour and a half. His mouth started to open, beady hazel eyes excited, and she held up a hand. “I’ve got it Sherman, really.” She smiled to ease the sting of possible rejection. “Get your paper work done and head home okay?”
He didn’t look convinced, but she didn’t give him a chance to argue. Looping her scarf around her neck she disappeared out the doors of the auror office and headed quickly toward the lift. Once she managed wind her way through the ministry, which was a job in and of itself given how many people wanted to just stand about and chat, she headed straight for the Malfoy’s little apothecary shop. She knew it was almost closing thanks to curfew, but she was in one of those moods, and when she spied Malfoy exiting, excitement danced through her blood. So she wouldn’t be dealing with Snape tonight.
Even better.
“Mr. Malfoy.” She smiled, halting to the left so he could continue if he wished. “Big plans this evening?” She asked with false interest, brown eyes sweeping the finery that draped his lean figure before stilling on his face. I can’t believe I was once infatuated with him. She thought. The man didn’t hold a candle to Frank on his worst day, let alone his best.
