A/N: this is for Adriana malikismyhero. I love you babe 😘 Listen to Photograph by Ed Sheeran cause this is based on that song. Adriana had met him at a bad time. It was a bad time for him and it didn't make things any better for her. Zayn had just gotten in a 'relationship' with Perrie at the time when he met her, when he saw her beautiful face in London in the little café. They became friends first, she loved him though, she always had and slowly he fell in love with her. Adriana had been with him just over a year when her life seemed to change. She couldn't even go to the movie premier of her own boyfriend. Instead she had to sit at home and watch his fans go crazy because he had gotten 'engaged' to Perrie. It broke her heart but she knew that loving him hurt sometimes but she also knew that it was the only thing she really knew. They both knew it could get hard sometimes, with the distance and the hiding. It was hard but loving each other made them feel alive. It was on their fourth date when the picture was taken. They had gone to a bowling alley when there wasn't many people there. Bowling, some food and then they went to the photo booth. The four pictures had been split between the two of them and they had both kept them with them since. Their love was in those photographs, memories had been made forever. And for a while neither of their hearts were broken because they loved each other but they just wished that time could be frozen. That they could stay like that forever. And from that date they both kept the two photographs in the pocket of their ripped jeans. Every time they wore different jeans they put the photographs in the pockets. And Zayn liked to keep her close, he liked knowing that she was there even if she wasn't. And Adriana liked to keep him close too. She loved keeping him close because she needed him to be there until their eyes actually met but really she didn't want to be alone. And it was all she had as she waited for him to come home. She had been broken before but his love had mended her soul, had made her feel better about herself and his loving was the only thing that she knew. He had promised her that it would get easier, that his fake relationship would be over soon so he could be with her properly, so he could show everyone the person he really loved. But even if he couldn't tell everyone they both knew that love was the only thing that you take with you when you die. They both knew that their forever was real. When Adriana looks at those photographs she wishes that she could feel that way again. She loved Zayn, of course she still did but she had a broken heart. She had a broken heart because everywhere she looked she saw him with Perrie or mention of their relationship and that hurt her the most but she knew that he always came home to her so that kept her going. Knowing that he loved her and that she could hold him close until their eyes finally met again made her strong. And sometimes they fought. Not often but they did and it was often about the same things. They never wanted to hurt each other but neither of them minded when they hurt each other because really only words bleed. They both knew that they didn't mean it because they love each other and when he held her, he held her close because he never wanted to let her go. But for months Adriana had to imagine what it felt like to be held by him because she had to wait for him to come home. Adriana had a necklace, this necklace had always meant a lot to her but when she met him it meant so much more. She had put a picture of him in it, just so she could keep him close to her heart when he wasn't there. She liked knowing that she was with him even if he wasn't. He was her heart and soul and she knew if they hurt each other it didn't mean anything. The only thing that could bleed was their words. And he loved holding her, not letting her go because he never wanted to. And when he is gone he misses her the most, when he is alone in a strange city with nothing but an empty hotel room for company he misses her the most but he remembers the way she kissed him. The way she kissed him under that lamppost, the one on 6th street when they were in New York but all he has now is her voice through the phone and his heart breaking ever time he hears her sob when he whispers "wait for me to come home."
