The Man-Elephant inverts a line from "The Elephant Man" in She-Hulk #38, 2008, by Peter David, Steve Scott and Vicente Cifuentes. His real name, by the way, is Manfred Ellsworth Haller, in another "names anticipating villainous identities and their powers" bit.

Summary:

Outside of Sheriff Walters' office, Bukowski runs into Jennifer and he Bukowskis at her. Now that Jennifer's transformation is under her control, she doesn't have to worry about hulking out. Instead of running from the irritant, she's able to tell him off. This feels like a metaphor for owning your anger as a woman. Women's arguments are often dismissed if they show too much emotion. Jennifer was victim to that mentality when she could not control her transformation. Now that she transforms at will, her anger actually gives her the ability to change the script and put Bukowski in his place. It is very satisfying.

Back at Jennifer's house, Rory sees people inside. It's Sheriff Walters' new girlfriend and a real estate agent. When Jennifer traces the license plate number that Rory wrote down, she discovers the real estate agent's identity. Despite all evidence to the contrary, she can't believe her father would sell the home she's living in without telling her.

At the courthouse, Manfred Ellsworth Haller, a man with an elephant fetish and an expertise in hydraulics is trying to sell Sheriff Walters and Bukowski on the idea of using his elephant suit to take down She-Hulk. Sheriff Walters disapproves of vigilantes even when they offer to take down his gamma-powered daughter, so he refuses the offer. Undeterred, Manfred takes his suit on TV and outlines his plan to take down She-Hulk, because what's the point of vigilante-ism if you can't get some publicity out of it.

At Jennifer's house, she's getting physical with Rory, a decent man who's always treated her well. Zapper sees them through a window and freaks out. He storms in so he and Rory can fight over Jennifer. Then Zapper storms out.

Jennifer chases after Zapper. She transforms into She-Hulk in order to prove to Zapper that the moments Zapper and She-Hulk shared were real. The two decide to head out of town and back to the beach. Ugh, Zapper.

On their way out of town, She-Hulk is spotted by the Man-Elephant who assumes that She-Hulk is responding to his televised call out. A fight ensues. She-Hulk holds her own against the hydraulics in the suit, but apparently the gamma-radiation doesn't protect against knock out gas, and the She-Hulk is rendered unconscious.

While the fight is going down, Bukowski is at the mechanics, working on the case against She-Hulk. He discovers that Jennifer's car had been sabotaged. To Bukowski's credit he instantly realizes that this means that She-Hulk was trying to save Jill's life back in The Savage She-Hulk #2, and that by stopping her, he was actually responsible for Jennifer's best friend's death.

Bukowski reports his findings to the Sheriff and the two begin plans to stand down the search for She-Hulk when Man-Elephant shows up at the courthouse with the unconscious heroine herself. She-Hulk wakes up (because gamma-radiation does give some protection against knock out gas) and the battle begins anew. This time she is on the verge of defeating the Man-Elephant when Sheriff Walters stops her, telling her she is cleared of all charges. Nonetheless, after all of the crap she's been through, She-Hulk is in no mood. She runs off, transforming into Jennifer just in time to learn that Rory is leaving since he's tired of being rejected and that her father is about to sell the house out from under her.

Let's Look Closer:

Jennifer: That's really cute Bucky!  Where'd you learn it -- remedial come-ons 101?  When it comes to you, A.D.A. stands for Amazingly Deluded Attorney!  Shut up!  If your ego were harnessed energy, there'd be no power crunch for another two hundred years!

The look of disdain on Jennifer's face and the look of shock on Bukowski's will definitely power me for a while.

Technically She-Hulk doesn't begin breaking the fourth wall until her next series, Sensational She-Hulk, but here we see a hint of things to come with Rory reading Howard the Duck?

The suit is modeled after an elephant.  The strength of an elephant's hide.  The attack ability of an elephant's tusks.  The power of an elephant's limbs.  The...knock out gas that elephants store in their trunks?

Rory is as sick of this guy as I am.  Ugh, Zapper.

Helpful hint for She-Hulk: If you don't want to be seen, maybe keep the top up while driving through crowded city streets.

For someone who thinks he's on the right side of the law, Man-Elephant sure is cavalier about causing damage to city property. 

It looks like She-Hulk forgot that she can use her powerful nails to scale buildings. 

She-Hulk does not have time for your respectability politics.
