it really shouldn’t impact me as much as it does but the line “you don’t have to be lonely. because you’re mine.” makes me cry.

and I fully understand the toxicity of that. I just also know her feeling of wanting to be wanted in such a visceral way.

I think Manacled ruined me a little in the best and worst way possible.

What started as a Dramione fanfic somehow turned into one of the most devastating stories I’ve ever read.

A world where Voldemort wins. Hermione with missing memories. Draco as the High Reeve. And a story that feels less like romance and more like grief, survival and impossible choices. Inspired by , SenLinYu herself described it as “a dystopian horror story.”

There’s this constant feeling throughout the whole fic that war destroys people long before it kills them.

“You’re like a rose in a graveyard. I wonder what you could have turned into without the war.”

And maybe that’s why it stays with so many people. Not because it’s dark. But because underneath all the darkness, it’s really about love surviving in a world that doesn’t deserve it.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the way this story slowly reveals itself through memories, sacrifices and all the things left unsaid.

Some books end when you close them. Manacled just kind of lingers ✨

Harry Potter is dead. In the aftermath of the war, in order to strengthen the might of the magical world, Voldemort enacts a repopulation effort. Hermione Granger has an Order secret, lost but hidden in her mind, so she is sent as an enslaved surrogate to the High Reeve until her mind can be cracked.

Oh... This would have wrecked me if I had found it when I was younger, holy shit.

Much more enjoyable than the first, in account of the lack of rape, writing experience and skill getting better; I specially enjoyed the small snippets of the golden trio, as much as Ron and Harry were crybabies at times —for fucks sake, you're at war, have the mercy to end this quick for your own and do what must be done—.

Chapter 61 by the way, SenLinYu, count your days. I've never been a Harmony romantic shipper, and I still am not, but they have such an interesting dynamic, —here, in the books it's underutilized (obligatory fuck you JKR)— I was fighting back tears while in the university library.

Also, justice for the Weasley family they needed more page time, specially Ron and Ginny since they're more plot relevant. Nevertheless I do understand having to pick your battles when writing from the POV of an isolated character, it makes sense why we didn't get more.

Lastly, I am now fully on board of the magic science side of things, still don't fully get it but I like it more now, feels less plot convenient compared to the last book.

Wasn’t like insanely interested in Alchemised when it came out but caught up on the whole lore of it being a draco hermione fic which had me superrrr intrigued bc I love Harry Potter so here I go reading Manacled and WHY DID IT BREAK MY HEART!!!!!!! like omg genuinely so dark but an insane twist on HP and if the dark side like won. Literally broke my heart and put it back together and then the last epilogue broke it all over again like SHE FOUGHT BABE!!!!! Wow so now the obvious next step is to read Alchemised and see how she changed the world and even like the writing, super excited!

Reseña: Alchemised de SenLinYu

Terminar Alchemised fue una experiencia tormentosa: no puedo decir que no me gustó, pero tampoco que me encantó. Me quedé en un punto medio bastante raro. Es un libro que tiene ideas interesantes y un mundo atractivo, pero también arrastra varios problemas de ritmo y estructura que hacen que la lectura se vuelva, en momentos, tediosa.

La novela se desarrolla en un mundo posterior a una guerra larga donde el régimen de la Llama Eterna domina con una mezcla de poder militar, alquimia y criaturas que desafían las reglas normales de la vida y la muerte. La protagonista, Helena, vive atrapada dentro de ese sistema mientras el libro va revelando poco a poco lo que ocurrió durante la guerra y cuál fue su papel en ella.

Uno de los elementos centrales de la historia es el misterio alrededor de la memoria de Helena. Desde el principio se nos promete que hay algo extremadamente importante que ella no recuerda, algo que supuestamente podría cambiar nuestra comprensión de todo lo que ocurrió durante la guerra. El problema es que la novela dedica una enorme cantidad de páginas a construir ese misterio, pero cuando finalmente se revela, su impacto narrativo no es tan grande como la tensión previa hacía esperar.

Otro punto que me resultó evidente es lo mucho que la historia recuerda a Manacled. La estructura emocional, la relación entre los protagonistas y varios de los temas principales se sienten como una versión reescrita de esa historia, aunque con un escenario distinto y nuevos nombres. Esto claramente lo hizo la autora para poder crear su propia historia lejos de los derechos de autor de JK.

Donde el libro se desequilibra más es en el tiempo que dedica a ciertos temas. Se nos presenta un mundo en guerra lleno de intrigas políticas, espionaje y estrategias, pero gran parte del espacio narrativo termina concentrándose en el conflicto emocional entre Helena y Kain. Muchas veces la historia vuelve una y otra vez a la misma dinámica de “no podemos estar juntos”, en lugar de profundizar más en el funcionamiento de la guerra y del régimen que gobierna el mundo.

Aun así, hay momentos que sí logran impactar. Algunas pérdidas durante la guerra, como la muerte de Luc, consiguen transmitir el peso humano del conflicto y le dan a la historia una dimensión emocional real.

El mayor problema llega al final. Después de más de mil páginas construyendo el misterio y el contexto del mundo, el desenlace se siente apresurado. Muchas de las consecuencias políticas y personales se resuelven demasiado rápido, lo que da la impresión de que el libro dedicó demasiada energía a preparar el terreno y muy poca a cerrar la historia.

A pesar de todo esto, Alchemised nunca me resultó completamente aburrido. De hecho, me mantuvo leyendo hasta el final porque quería saber cómo encajaban todas las piezas. Y eso ya dice algo positivo: la autora sabe cómo mantener la curiosidad del lector.

En mi opinión, la historia habría funcionado mucho mejor con unas 200 páginas menos. Con un ritmo más ajustado y un final más desarrollado, podría haber sido una novela mucho más sólida.

Al final, Alchemised es una lectura interesante pero irregular: una historia con buenas ideas, momentos emocionales efectivos y un mundo intrigante, que sin embargo se pierde un poco en su propia extensión.

Valoración personal: un libro que vale la pena leer si te interesan las historias de fantasía oscura con intriga política y romance complejo, pero que probablemente habría sido mejor con un poco menos de páginas y un final más desarrollado.
