TW MENTIONS OF SUICIDE
Do you think she committed suicide? Its a popular theory (some ppl think it is canon.)
I can see it being suicide, but at the same time isnt it an isekai ref?? I think it's a little wrong to pair those two up together.
For context, there is a popular trope that the main character of an Isekai (shounen for fantasy anime) is hit by a truck and is suddenly in a fantasy world.
Maybe it was like. Involuntary suicide, like she danced on the streets knowing she could "die," just not caring.
You may disagree because they can't exactly die, but look at her face.
She's not even all that surprised. Not devestated. Not sad. Not happy. Just neutral. Her mouth may look frowny, but that's her resting face.
Look at how happy she is to run over the street, even knowing the potential danger. She doesn't look both ways. She smiles, she feels euphoric, she feels real. That's what refutes anyone who says she knows she can't die. This is her real life to her. This is no different in her eyes.
Again, literally facing up and closing her eyes. The happiest we've ever seen her. And she's dancing, on the streets, about to trip into incoming traffic. There's no way she wasn't aware. I think she just doesn't care.
Don't get me wrong. I don't think this suicide was voluntary. I don't think she went "Finally, it's real! Lemme die now!" There's a thing I like to call "involuntary suicide".
Involuntary suicide, by definition, is a nonstandard term sometimes used to describe a death that appears like suicide but occurs without the person’s free, intentional choice, often due to coercion, severe mental impairment, or overwhelming external forces.
It counts when the person does want to die, just didn't do it on purpose.
They noticed the risk. They let it happen. But they weren't thinking "Finally I'm dying!!!"
That's what I believe happened with Gangle here. She wants to die. She wouldn't have danced on the streets otherwise, but she's not trying to. She just doesn't care about the risk of such an outcome.
This is reinforced especially when Gangle is back with Caine, and still looks unfazed. Even when he does mention it. She mentions she "cracked under the pressure," which further implies it's an involuntary suicide.
Why not voluntary?
Gangle wasn't seeking out cars. She didn't run to the street when she saw traffic. She just danced in the streets, even if she could tell how risky it was. Even if it felt like real life. Even if, at this point, it was real life. Cracking under the pressure implies the pressure got to her, and led her to dance, which ultimately led to her semi-metaphoric death.
It shows the death of one side of her, the comedy mask one, where she couldn't be happy unless she had it on.
It also implies that the pressure led her to just well, die. On the inside mostly, but they feel pain. She had to have felt the pain of a car crash where you never go unconscious.
"I suppose." It shows her doubt, she doesn't really know if she actually did commit. If she really did crack under the pressure. It indirectly shows that her involuntary suicide didn't really bother her much, and she wasn't sure what to call it.
And when she just didn't respond to Caine, she was processing all this. And what he said. She was speechless because she was unsure what had happened exactly, and how to label it.
Let me know if you agree!
