my absolute fav part of designing these was taking what the other veiwed their partners job as, and making that their costume.

Scarabella see's mao as a combat loving, strong, and reliable partner, whereas mao views scarabella's job as a duty, almost a tradition, and it reminds her of how her mother is (/pos) which is why i tried to give her some traditional Chinese aspects in her outfit as well as modern (because she's.. well.. modern) parts. Also i made her more creechur-ey because i love the idea of FERAL marinette actually bugging out (or going cat-shit crazy if she's mao.. get it?)

Matagot

A matagot or mandagot is, according to some oral traditions of southern France, a spirit in the form of an animal, mostly undetermined, frequently a black cat, rat, fox, dog, or cow types are said to exist too. Matagots are generally evil, but some may prove helpful, like the "magician cat" said to bring wealth into a home if it is well fed. Traditionally, a wealth-bringing matagot must be lured with a fresh, plump chicken, then carried home by its new owner without the human once looking back. If he cat is given the first mouthful of food and drink at every meal, it will repay its owner with a solid gold coin each morning. In Gascony traditions, you must not keep the matagot all your lifelong: if the owner is dying, he will suffer a long agony, as long as he doesn't free the matagot.

Some matagots are said to bring wealth if they can be lured into a person's house. If they are given the first bite of food and sip of drink at each meal, the matagot will repay its owner with a gold coin every morning.

I really enjoyed all the creatures in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. But i’ve developed a special affection for the matagots, so i had to sketch them!
