Mandarin Nectar / Alpine Beer (Alpine, CA)

オレンジの皮とコリアンダーを副原料に使ったIPA。渋めの柑橘アロマがあり（当たり前だが）、ややもったりした印象のフレーバーとABVのわりに重めのボディ。苦味はそれほどでもないんだけどこのフレーバーの印象のせいか若干舌の上でざらついたような感覚がある。飲みやすいかというとそれほどでもない。この手のフルーツIPAならやはりバラストポイントが好きだ。

A Wing and a Prayer

Despite pairing up with Green Flash Brewing for production and distribution, Alpine Beer Company is still a shoestring operation. Their website leaves much to be desired. I wanted to find out something, anything about the bottle of Mandarin Nectar I was enjoying, but I got nothing but a Christmas message posted in 2014. Just so you know, my information comes second hand.

The beer is brewed with Orange blossom honey, coriander, and orange zest, on what I believe is a bed of wheat. The body is nice and fluffy, full but not heavy. I can really taste the honey, but also a note of honeydew. It’s sweet and floral and melony. The coriander doesn’t add much spice, which is actually nice. It takes a careful hand to balance such delicate flavors.
