SIDAPA as bespoke Suit Maestro AU
130+ non-consecutive painting hrs
Finally! My most complex digital artwork to date is finished! I'm proud to present to all of you the cover page of the very first "KISIG TALAAN" fashion magazine of New Manila, featuring none other than the cold, and calculated Maestro of the best bespoke suits in the country. How does your style (and your life) measure up to his standards? Grab your own copy now in the nearest bookstore to find out!
I cannot actually recall my earliest memories of being fascinated with suits. I find them really sexy. So, I decided to draw Sidapa in a double breasted pinstripe suit. I am actually torn between drawing him in a suit, in a Barong Tagalog, or in a pre-colonial clothing. But in the end, I decided to go with the suit, and later with the two. I'm also planning to draw Bulan, Malandok, and Bakunawa next. That is if I don't get tired of drawing them in suits. (I still have not designed my own version of Bakunawa though!)
For those who are wondering what’s with the title of the Magazine, “KISIGTALAAN” is a portmanteau of Tagalog words “Kisig” and ‘Talaan’’ which means handsomeness/elegance, and list/entry respectively. So, the magazine is supposed to be all about Men’s fashion. The concept behind this cover page is originally just to satisfy my suit fetish but lately, I realize I can actually incorporate Sid’s backstory by adding a simple yet symbolic detail that is the measuring tape. If you don’t know yet, Sidapa, being the God of Afterlife or death, measures every man’s life by marking a part of the tree where he lives. That mark signifies the lifespan of someone. If that someone’s branch reach that mark, he’ll die.
This artwork is purely painted in Photoshop CC 2015, using Catch Kandle brush of GrutBrushes Artisanal Photoshop Brushes for most of the painting.
