Get in the Arena or Get Out.
I work at a school that is closed this week because too many of my friends, coworkers, and students are sick and UNABLE to come to school. When I come on social media and look for news updates and I see people who don't work in schools laughing at illness, saying that the schools closing is a hoax or an overreaction to the cold or flu, that schools closing is due to the government trying to bully people or control people--I just lose a little more faith in humanity.
People are trying to heal. Too many people are sick.
It may not be *as* life-threatening anymore (but make no mistake, people are still dying across the world from Covid and even here in our state, our city), and I am so thankful that Covid has not effected my life or those I care about in a detrimental way, but it is still very real and impacting us.
I first saw this quote from a Ted Talk by Dr. Brene Brown where she talked about "If you aren't in the arena with me, also getting your ass kicked, then I am not interested in your feedback." I thought we were all, as a community and as humanity, fighting in this arena together--that's how it should be and everyone is fighting their own different fights--but I am seeing more and more people yelling falsities from the cheap seats in the stands or screaming at their screens instead. We should be fighting together in the arena instead of fighting each other.
