Why is no one stating the obvious after the women’s Olympic figure skating.
The reason we love Alysa and Kaori and Loena and Amber is because we let them grown into women. They had their growth spurt, they gained weight and curves, they developed personalities, they showed us vulnerability and fight back.
It’s why we loved Yuna, and Michelle and Mao and Evgenia.
There is no joy in watching children who you actually fear for their mental and physical health, throwing themselves into tricks from which they can really hurt themselves, set to a bland routine designed purely to score GoE points.
I would rather have a skater with beautiful spins and footwork that gives me a different style of programme year in year out for nearly a decade, than a 15 year old with a handful of quads any day.
