Project Revive Chasing Shadows IDW

In November of 2025, after multiple delays over the release date, we got the news that the Shadow the Hedgehog one shot comic “Chasing Shadows” had been cancelled.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Chasing Shadows was intended to be a one-shot comic issue published by IDW Publishing and written by Kiel Phegley. Inspired by the 1973 horror film The Wicker Man, the story would have starred Shadow the Hedgehog discovering an isolated town. It was initially slated for release in March 2025, but was cancelled after several delays due to workflow and schedule issues.

Despite the unfortunate news, I still believe the concept can be saved, and you 🫵 can help with the project as well.

How can I collaborate?

You can drop suggestions, ideas, information, etc, in either of the admins accounts (see end of the post for reference)

If you’re willing to participate in the elaboration of the comic itself, you can send a private message and you’ll be added as an moderator here.

Or just promoting the project would be more than enough!

What if you join the team?

The jobs we need for the realization of the comic are:

Blog runner -> administrate and make informative posts on the blog

Researcher -> look for and through information regarding overall/character/world/lore for the writers/etc

Scrip writer

Character writer

Character designer

Environment designer

Reference/sketch art

Background reference art

Line art

Color/render art

What are WE doing?

This is a fan project to rescue the idea of the cancelled comic, nothing less, nothing more. And it is, first and foremost, a passion project. We don’t have a deadline, nor I am a professional of any kind, and also, like, I have a life outside of this so please have patience with this.

What are we NOT doing?

Monetizing in any shape or form.

Asking you for any sort of monetary support.

Give payment for the contributions. Again, this is a fan project, so we’re neither taking or giving money for anything.

Trying to make Sega to un-cancel the comic.

Trying to act superior to the creatives in IDW Sonic. This is not a space where harassment is tolerated.

Shadow the Hedgehog is off on a solo-adventure where he finds himself in an old isolated village away from the modern world. As strange happenings begin to occur, he finds haunting clues that point to a dark secret not only in the town but among the villagers who inhabit it. Can Shadow escape their clutches and unravel the dark secrets of the village?

I think it would be cool if Eclipse was there. Like Shadow thinks he’s going crazy because he doesn’t remember Eclipse.

Um, yeah, I don’t have a canon pic of him so have my design instead.

I’ll need someone to tell me the lore of Archie Sonic because I genuinely know nothing about Eclipse, but this could be a cool idea! Love the design too!!

OOOOO THIS IS GONNA BE PEAK!!!!

From what I remember them saying about the cancelled comic, they had a character who was gonna play an antagonistic role I believe they called 'Bones the Vulture'. Do you plan on using this mysterious character in anyway?

Thank you for the hype! I believe the name was actually “Bones the Falcon”, but thanks for the reminder. We’re still in VERY early development, so nothing is set in stone. But seeing how that character is one of the only things we have confirmed about the comic, I’ll do what I can to make sure it’s included.
