Overview

Hello, we are the Turtle System! This is our blog for talking about serious and non-serious system stuff, our interests, and current events. Here are some quick facts about us:

Our body uses he/him and identifies as a man. We are fine with they/them if it encompasses the whole system.

We are 19 years old and a university student in the USA.

Aside from DID, we are also autistic. (And have lots of other stuff going on...)

We are bodily AAPI and trilingual.

Our asks and DMs are open to friendly interactions and questions about being a system! If you're new to interacting with systems, don't worry about using the "wrong" terminology around us. Just make it clear that you're approaching with an open mind! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

Interests

This is a broad generalization of the interests of various system members. (Many alters like specific types of these things.)

Science, history/anthropology, linguistics, art, and writing.

The Avengers (Marvel), Tolkien, Star Wars, and a handful of anime/manga.

Nintendo games, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, and The Sims 4.

Stances

This blog will never be a safe space for discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, etc. We condemn ideologies such as Neo-Nazism, pro-US imperialism, Zionism, white supremacy, TERFs, etc.

Systems come from trauma.

YAY we get to talk about marvel!!! different system members have different favorite characters for sure, but bruce, tony, matt murdock, and frank castle are popular among us! so are nat romanoff, clint barton, sam wilson, etc.

i personally have not watched agents of shield but i know some other system members have! i think they enjoyed it but they got busy and ended up not finishing it, so they want to pick it up at some other point.

The younger system members are all like “AHHH we are so old” and the older ones are like “oh thank god” . fortunately we have a system member for every age but the harder thing about birthdays is trauma but we ignore that

What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless

FOOD

Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food

grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread

different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.

some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit

SHELTER

Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment

sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it

Some churches offer short term residence

Find your nearest homeless shelter

Look for places that are open to the public

A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.

Public libraries have bathrooms you can use

Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.

Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver

Local beaches, go for a quick swim

Some truck stops have showers you can pay for

Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet

Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket

OTHER

yes to downgrading your phone plan to a pay-as-you-go, including getting a different phone, but if you have a smartphone hang onto it. There are places with free wifi access that you can use without going inside, meaning you can have access to the internet throughout most urban areas, and it can be convenient to have bookmarks and contact info and the ability to text, which even in places with public computers like libraries you can’t have

Also, in regards to phones, there are programs that offer free phones and service if you receive things like food stamps and Medicaid. They might not be the nicest phones and at least the one I had didn’t have unlimited talk, but it’s something.
