Umm, Rowan? Are you doing the number fic thing still? If you are may I request number 25 with MC x Lestrade?
25. “I can’t believe you talked me into this.”
Thank you for your patience! At the time you sent this in I was, and hope to be again soon!
“I can’t believe you talked me into this.” George’s hand tightly gripped hers so MC could feel how much he shook.
“It’ll be fun George, don’t worry, nothing bad will happen.”
“But what if I accidentally hurt you?” He leaned in close, surrounding her with his warmth, even as his face twisted in worry, “what if I step on your foot?” Taking advantage of his nearness MC pulled him closer so she could quickly kiss his forehead. He stiffened, standing at attention with his mouth hanging open. In his momentary surprise she pressed into him, waiting. It was a little while longer as George looked up and down the practically empty street before he relaxed, wrapping his arms around her.
“I really want to learn to dance, and I want my partner to be you. But if you’re uncomfortable I’m sure I can find someone else to dance with me.” MC started to lean away, doing her best to keep the smirk off of her face knowing what to expect when George’s arms tightened around her.
“I didn’t say that.” George sighed as he held her closer, “I’m coming, if only to keep you from dancing with a handsome man and falling madly in love with him.”
MC rolled her eyes. “I highly doubt that would ever happen.” She took a step back to create enough room for her to reach up and place a hand on his cheek, “I’m already in love with you.” George’s eyes started to look glassy as he looked away, but he grabbed her hand and brought it to his mouth. Placing a tender kiss on the back of her fingers.
“Thank you.” He took a deep, calming, exaggerated breath. “Let’s do this.”
The studio was small and there were many people in their socks out on the floor, the air was buzzing with their excitement. There was some kind of pop song playing softly in the background. MC took in the room from the crowd to the mirror while George set out to put their stuff to the side away from everyone else’s. It was presumably because of the relationship he had with Sherlock and his worry about people disturbing his things, but anytime she brought it up to him he would sputter and attempt to deny it.
George had stepped up to offer her his arm when a familiar voice called out. “MC!” It wasn’t hard to spot the blond guy once he started waving excitedly, Jeremy was nearly bouncing as he tripped rushing over from the crowd. “I didn’t know you were in this class too, do you have a dance partner already?”
“Yes.” George’s eyes narrowed as he sternly answered for her, wrapping her arm around his.
“Oh Greg, I didn’t see you there.” Jeremy gasped in mock surprise. “Though I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, anyone dating MC would be a fool to let her slip away.” He winked at MC.
“It’s ‘George’. Let’s go join the others.” He stepped in between MC and Jeremy turned his back on guy, his movements more stiff than they had been when he was expressing concern outside. He stared at her waiting for her to nod, MC gave him the queue and shot Jeremy an apologetic smile before letting George pull her out onto the studio’s hardwood floor. Still, instead of joining the mass of excited student, George slowly started to brood standing off to the side with her.
“He’s a friend. Well, technically he’s a friend of Mycroft and Hercule.”
“I know.” His dark tone was concerning, MC soothingly ran her fingers along the back of his hand that held on so tightly.
“George?” He shifted uncomfortably as she glanced up at him, “it’s alright. You’re my one and only dance partner, you know why?” He glanced away, but at least his grip had loosened and she could see the dusting of pink on the tips of his ears. “It’s because I choose you.”
“I love you MC, I’m…” George stared at the clock as it got closer to when the class would start. He pouted a little as he seemed to search for the next thing to say, “I am honoured to be your dance partner. I don’t think I could stand anyone else dancing with you.”
“Alright class, we’re about to begin! We are your instructors for the evening-” A pair came out of the backroom demanding everyone’s attention. MC leaned into George, missing the way he smiled gently down at her and at the way she was fidgeting in excitement over the start of a dance class.
