James gives everyone special nicknames.
Lily is “Red”. Marlene is “Marls”. Remus is “Prof”. Peter is “Petey.” Regulus is “Sunshine” (deeply sarcastic).
But he can never find one for Sirius.
Everything is too small. Too ordinary. No word can contain everything Sirius means to him.
Then, one morning, it slips out when Sirius hands him a cup of coffee.
“Thank you, my love.”
The smile Sirius gives him in response is blinding.
Suddenly he realises he hasn’t been looking for a nickname. He’s been looking for a name for the love of his life.
