This pasta recipe is inspired by Marcella Hazan's famous Tomato Sauce with Onion and Butter. It's a simple yet incredibly flavorful sauce that pairs perfectly with any pasta of your choice. The richness of butter combined with the sweetness of onion and the acidity of tomatoes creates a deliciously balanced sauce that will elevate your pasta dish to a whole new level of comfort and satisfaction.
Ingredients: 28 oz can whole peeled tomatoes. 5 tablespoons unsalted butter. 1 medium yellow onion, peeled and halved. Salt, to taste. 1 lb pasta of your choice. Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving.
Instructions: In a saucepan, combine the tomatoes, butter, and halved onion. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. After 45 minutes, remove the onion halves from the sauce and discard. Use a wooden spoon to crush the tomatoes in the saucepan until desired consistency is reached. Season the sauce with salt to taste. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Once the pasta is cooked, drain it and return it to the pot. Pour the tomato sauce over the cooked pasta and toss until the pasta is evenly coated. Serve the pasta hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
