March the Hare Turnarounds
The Pony and the Cat
Chapter 1
(This is another Original Story that takes place in the same universe as my RP with @mordenheim, "A Likely Story", and takes place after "Among the Rom" my old RP with @ask-de-writer. It does feature MLP characters, which I sadly admit I do not own.)
Pinkie Pie, the Element of Laughter, stood in front of her friends, Apple Jack, Twilight, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Spike. Her employers, Mr. and Mrs. Cake, were also with them, as they were all gathered in Twilight's study in her crystal castle. Pinkie had gathered them all there to make an announcement; She had decided to leave Equestria.
Twilight blinked rapidly. “Could, um, could you say that one more time?”
“I'm leaving Equestria.” Pinkie repeated calmly for her lavender friend. Oddly calmly for the oft-over excited pink mare.
So calmly, in fact, it was almost troubling to see and hear.
“Okay.” Twilight nodded. “So, I did hear you correctly. May I ask as to why you're leaving your home? Your friends? Your whole life, it seems?”
Pinkie sighed. “So, um... you guys remember Wind? That otter-cat girl Rom?”
The gathered ponies nodded.
“Well, um, I kinda have a teensy, crush on her.” Pinkie admitted, “So much, that, um, I kinda love her...”
Rarity smiled. “Well, that's certainly understandable. She embodies all of our elements of Harmony; she's honest, honorable, brave, strong, reliable, funny, and one of the kindest beings I have ever met.” She nodded at Fluttershy. “I can honestly say, that she's just as kind as Fluttershy.”
The yellow pony nodded. “I agree.”
“So, uh, you love Wind, huh?” Apple Jack asked. Pinkie nodded yes. “Ya'll know she's married, right? To that big horse, Penny?”
“Yeah. I know.” Pinkie admitted. “But, I fell in love with her before she was married. About 5 years ago, when Wind came to Equestria and lived with the Rom for a month to heal. I saw her with them, and saw her develop a friendship with that other Rom, Hanar. I...” she looked downtrodden. “I saw her and fell in love with her. I didn't do or say anything, because, well, I knew she loved Penny. Hanar and Wind also fell in love...”
“And you didn't want to get in the middle of that.” Rainbow Dash said, knowing Pinkie the best out of the group.
“Yeah...” Pinkie nodded as she smiled weakly. “But, um... after your Wedding, Twilight and Rarity, I talked to Marchhare. I told him how I felt about her. He understood, just like you guys, why I loved her, and he also pointed out that she's married.”
“Okay, but, um... why do you want to leave Equestria?” Spike asked. “Broken heart?”
Pinkie shook her head no, and looked at each of her friends. “Nope. Marchhare felt bad for me, and uh, well, he found another Wind. His friend, De Writer, knows all the Winds in the multi-verse. He found one that lives in another dimension. On another world. She's a cat, not an otter cat, and she's single. She even runs a bakery and coffee store and she's a writer.” She smiled. “I'm going to move there.”
“That's a heck of thing to do on a whim, Pinkie.” Mrs. Cake said. “Moving to a new world, just on a chance that she might fall in love with you?”
Pinkie looked at Mrs. and Mr. Cake. “It's not a whim, Mrs. Cake.” She tapped the side of her head. “When Marchhare told me about this new Wind, My Pinkie-senses went bonkers. I felt as though this Wind was...is meant for me.”
Twilight gasped. So did everyone gathered. “Oh, wow. Really? Gosh.”
Pinkie teared up, her big blue eyes brimmed with tears. “I have to leave and meet her. I can't stop thinking about her. My heart is all funny, and my tummy is all rumbly...”
Twilight walked over to Pinkie and hugged her. “We're going to miss you, Pinkie. I give you my blessing. Go get your Wind.”
All the others came and hugged Pinkie as well. Tears and sniffles came freely.
Pinkie tried to giggle through her tears. “Thanks you guys...” They broke the hug. “So, um... I'll send you letters. Promise. Marchhare said he'll help me with those.”
Pinkie took a deep breath, said one last good-bye, and hugged each of her friends again in turn. She then left the castle to go and meet Marchhare. She walked out of Ponyville, using the main road, and headed towards Manehatten. After two hours of walking, she came across Marchhare's Rom camp. The old donkey was sitting next to the fire, along with Esper, Black Lotus, and the rest of his family. Being a Rom-friend, Pinkie walked into the camp, and greeted them in fluent Rom.
“Hello, Marchhare.” She smiled warmly, as she greetd him in fluent Rom.
Marchhare turned away from the conversation with Esper, and greeted her. “Hello, Pinkie. I assume you're ready to go?”
Pinkie nodded and sat next to him by the fire. “Sure am.”
Esper blinked. “Uh, ready for what?”
Marchhare explained the situation, and what Pinkie planned to do and why. Pinkie concurred.
“Wow.” Epser said. “Well, best of luck, Pinkie.”
The pink pony smiled. “Thanks, Esper.” She looked at Marchhare. “Can we go now?”
The old donkey lead Pinkie into his caravan, and into the back area. The two walked down several flight of stairs, and down several halls. After a few moments, he stopped in front of a door.
“Here we are.” He said as he pulled out a suitcase, seemingly from nowhere, and handed it to her. “In this world, the population wears clothing, and uses paper money. I packed you some clothing, and my Wind gave me the equivalent to 20,000 gold bits, in this case.”
Pinkie took the case. “Thanks, Marchhare.”
She opened the door, took a deep breath, and walked through it. As she stepped through the other side, she was suddenly standing upright, had a rather large chest, and was naked. Fortunately, she was in an empty alleyway. She gasped and quickly opened the suitcase. She pulled out some pants and a t-shirt. She didn't know what to do with the underwear or bra, so she left them in the case.
Once she was dressed, she noticed a folded piece of rectangular leather. She opened it, and found a piece of plastic called a driver's license. with her picture, a name “Phoebe Pie”, height, birthday, and... a fictitious address.
“Huh... Marchhare really thought of everything.” She also noticed a small piece of paper that read “Birth Certificate.” “And a birth certificate? Sheesh.”
She put her wallet in her back pocket of her pants, and tucked the birth certificate back into her suitcase. She then walked out of the alley, and looked around. She gasped in awe at the tall buildings, the different species of up-right animals going along with their lives and errands, and... the weird caravans driving along the roads without being pulled by a pony or horse.
As the newly anthro pony was looking up into the sky, watching an airplane fly overhead, though she didn't know what it was called, someone bumped into her.
“Oof!” Pinkie said as she, and whomever it was that bumped into her, both fell to the sidewalk.
“Ow...” the cat-girl said as she winced and rubbed her sore tushy. She looked at the pony,“Are you okay?”
Pinkie nodded through clenched eyes. “I'm okayyyy...” She drew out the 'y' as she noticed who bumped into her. It was this world's Wind. “Um, better then okay.”
She quickly stood up, and held out her non-suitcase holding hand. “Here. Let me help you.”
Wind took Pinkie’s hand and the pony easily helped Wind to stand up. “Uh, sorry about that. I'm new to town, and, well... just getting my bearings.”
Wind smiled at the pony. “It's okay. I wasn't watching where I was going.” She shook Pinkie’s hand. “I'm Winona, by the way. Winona Whisper.”
“Oh, um...” Pinkie smiled. “P- Phoebe.” She said, remembering the fake name Marchhare gave her. “Phoebe Pie.”
“Pie?” Wind giggled. “What? Are your parents bakers or something?”
Pinkie nodded. “Uh, yeah. They were, um were. I am, too. I went to culinary school, and, uh, worked for my parents bakery my whole life, pretty much.”
Wind giggled more. “Well, this seems lucky. I just opened a coffee shop-” She pointed behind Pinkie, “About a month ago, and I was looking to hire a baker.” She titled her head. “What are the chances?”
Pinkie blushed. “Uh, yeah. I, um, actually moved to town... to meet you. I have a... friend that told me about your place. So, um, I packed my bags and came here.”
Wind's eyes grew wide. “Wow. Okay. Come on in.” She let go of Pinkie's hand, and walked 10 feet to her coffee shop. “This is my place.”
Pinkie picked up her bag, and followed her. Her heart was going a million miles a second. Wind unlocked the door, making sure to keep the closed sign flipped to close.
The pony looked around the shop. It was fairly small and very quaint. There was a small counter to the right, and a total of five tables. The shop was decorated conservatively, with tasteful art adorning the walls, and fairy lights strung along the wooden ceiling beams. A strong scent of coffee, vanilla and cinnamon flooded her nose.
“Have a seat, Phoebe.” Wind said as gestured to a small table, closest to the door, with two chairs facing one another.
Pinkie sat down at the table, and set her case on the ceramic titled floor, next to her. Wind sat across from her, and smiled.
“So, you went to culinary school, and helped ran a bakery?” Wind repeated. “Why did you want to work for me?”
“I, uh, wanted to work for a smaller company.” Pinkie admitted. “Get a chance to co-own, if possible. Be partners? Help by, um, making an investment.”
Wind gasped. “Wait... you want to invest in my store?”
Pinkie smiled. “Uh-huh.” She looked at the double saloon styled doors next to them, behind the counter, and looked at the small kitchen. “You have a nice set-up, Winona... but it's going to need some work if you want to sell baked goods. I can help with that.”
Wind blinked. “How... um, how much are you willing to invest?”
Pinkie smiled. “Well, I have my life savings, you know, so I can, um, rent an apartment, if things worked out, and buy, groceries.” She thought for a second. “If we want to run a successful bakery and, um, coffee shop, we'll need at least a double oven, so that I can bake 4 things at a time. Soooo~” she drew out the 'o' “Say, um 5,000? Plus baking supplies and ingredients.”
Wind's eyes went wide. “Wow. Okay. Yeah.” She nodded. “Tell you what. Since we're going to be business partners, we can also be roommates, i-if you want.” She pointed to the front of the shop. “I live down the street in a two bedroom apartment. Wh-what do you say?”
Pinkie's heart started beating quickly again. She held out her right hand, extending her pinkie finger. “I say it's a deal. Pinkie Promise.”
“Pinkie promise?” Wind asked with a confused look, as she looked at Pinkie's hand.
“Oh,” Pinkie giggle/snorted “My nickname. It's Pinkie.”
“Oh. Right. Of course.” Wind smiled, as she hooked her right pinkie around Pinkie's finger. “Well, my family calls me Wind.”
Pinkie unhooked her finger and blushed a little. She wanted to tell Wind that she already knew that. That she already knew everything about her, thanks to De Writer. She knew her likes and dislikes, how old she was and even her birthday. She smiled brightly.
“That's a pretty nickname, Wind.” Pinkie admitted. “So, uh, wanna show me how you run the place?”
It's the first day of March ...but I'm not mad, just wet. Let's make the most of March!

Working from the official 2019 @Inktober prompt list….the word is “PATTERN”.
