Mama's boy
For the WIP game: So Help Me Todd
Alas, So Help Me Todd, gone too soon. The general premise of this one was that I thought Veronica was criminally underused and I wanted her to come back as a Big Bad, so I had her stab Todd. Because that's how I roll. :-D
Snippet:
“But Mom, that’s not how it works, that makes it a misdemeanor not a felony,” Todd protested.
“I know the law better than you, Todd, I think I would know -”
“You know about upholding the law, not breaking it!”
Allison tilted her wine glass towards her brother, eying the rest of the bottle. “He does have a point there.”
“That’s irrelevant!” Margaret protested.
“Don’t they say that lawyers make the best criminals?” Chuck pointed out.
“Yes, thank you…” Margaret acknowledged, smiling before the implication sunk in. “I beg your pardon?”
“Ha!” Todd cheered, holding his fist out to Chuck who didn’t reach across to bump it, but merely held it up just above the table before the doorbell rang. “You know what Chuck, we’ll get there. We just need to work on your enthusiasm, you got the spirit, you just need the attitude. We’ll work on it when I get back.”
Todd opened the door, turned away from the opening, about to shout a protest back at the argument when an all too familiar voice practically purred, “Hey there, handsome” and his stomach rolled as if he was facing down the first incline on the Superman roller coaster.
No. No it couldn’t be her.
His head whipped around so fast he was surprised he didn’t give himself whiplash, convinced he was having a full blown auditory visual hallucination because it was impossible…
Veronica smiled that half cat smile of hers, the one that told him he was once again three steps behind and she was just waiting for him to catch up. He used to love that smile. It meant she’d solved the case, she’d figured it out, and they were going to be off on a new adventure. He used to think of it as charming, but now…now the veneer was gone. The smile wasn’t warm, it was cold and condescending, not reaching her eyes as she leaned towards him, her hand on the door frame by his head and pushing into his space.
“What? No hello? No family dinner invite?” Veronica said. “That hurts.”
Todd wasn’t entirely convinced he wasn’t just stroking out on the front porch because how could she possibly be here? He tried to ask her, but the words refused to form, and instead he blurted out the painfully obvious: “You’re supposed to be in prison!”
“According to the judicial system, I am in prison. Funny old world, isn’t it?” Veronica leaned in closer, her hand coming down from the threshold, tracing her fingers through his hair at the nape of his neck, her nails scraping lightly against his skin. Todd couldn’t help the reflexive shiver - had her hands always been that cold?
Gus calls Margaret Magpie!!!!!
That's so cute.
Todd + almost getting hurt - So Help Me Todd s01e01-3-4
Remember how before Ezekiel's real backstory was revealed (albeit somewhat not jiving with how he's talked about in season commentary but that's another issue) there was this whole big theory among the The Librarians fandom that he was Jenkins's kid. Well, if you watch So Help Me Todd (and if you do you should help save it), you'd know that (albeit half-genderbent and with a couple siblings) the relationship between Margaret and Todd Wright is essentially that (that kind of dynamic but they are indeed parent-child)
So Help Me Todd (2022–) | Season 1, Episode 14 "Against All Todds" | Favorite moments, a.k.a. Margaret being a total legend as always
/ The way this show became my happy place, I adore the story and cast to the moon and back. <;3 I'm so freaking happy it has been renewed for a second season.
If you haven't seen SHMT, you're missing out big time.
Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret Wright serving looks in So Help Me Todd (1.01)
The relationships between Todd, Allison, and Lawrence are beautifully complex and offer a true understanding of what it means to be siblings
So Help Me Todd has already created such beautiful and nuanced relationships between the Wright siblings, and should not be overlooked for having one of the most realistic depictions of siblings on television.
