don’t get me wrong 🫵🏽 it would definitely be a big relationship curve for Maranda (😭), I’m thinking it would change from Amanda being intensely jealous of Mark for getting the girl, so to speak, then as she watches him love Clarissa he kind of grows on her? He goes to therapy, volunteers on Saturdays and occasionally goes to church? he does stupid things like take them both on dates cause he doesn’t want Amanda to feel left out. It’s things like that that kind of coax Amanda out of her jealousy to liking him, and maybe (one day), loving him. She doesn’t see a universe where she’s In Love with him, but she loves him, and more than that she loves that he loves Clarissa Suzanne.

“Mark,” she says, cigarette hanging daintily between her finger and thumb, “Hello.”

He offers a crooked smile, leaning on the railing opposite her, “Amanda, uh, hey, how are ya?”

She raises an eyebrow and gestures vaguely with her free hand as if to say ‘so-so’, and, feeling charitable, she reaches into her purse to offer him a cigarette.

“Ah, no— no thanks, I’m uh— I don’t smoke anymore,” he half-chuckles with a shrug, “Addiction runs in my family, as you know, so it’s not— I’m— you know, it’s— yeah.”

“Yeah.” She brings the cigarette to her lips briefly, “How are you, Mark?”

“Well, you know, I’m doing this like, group therapy thing? Children of divorced parents or something like that. My parents aren’t divorced, but close enough, right? Ah… yeah, I’m, you know. Quit smoking, I got these gum thingies. Spoke to a psychiatrist the other day… or was it a psychologist? A psy-something—”

‘Good for you,’ she thinks to herself as he rambles, ‘good for you.’

So, if a lotus represents Kanda, what flowers do you think would represent all the other characters? Would it be solely on how the flower looks, or on the meaning behind them?

I’ll base it on a composite of essentially all information I can find about the flower - appearance and symbolism, yes, and also how/where it grows and any history it may have. This, however, took... research. *glowers at nothing* Alright-

Allen has the forget-me-not. It symbolizes undying love, remembrance after parting or death, and reminders of your favorite memories. They can grow without much care, and are known to spread themselves unaided. In German legend, God was naming all the flowers when a tiny unnamed one cried “Forget-me-not, O Lord!” and God said “That shall be your name.”

Lenalee has the sunflower. The sunflower is one of the tallest flowers, growing up to ten feet tall. Further, young sunflowers exhibit heliotropic behavior, meaning they rotate to follow the sun’s path (even if the sun is not currently visible) but stop this behavior as they mature. They also symbolize adoration, dedication, and loyalty.

Lavi has foxglove. It is commonly found in areas where the ground has recently been disturbed, such as after fires or in recently cleared woodland, and it is used to help treat certain heart conditions. However, it can also, in moderate to large doses, cause heart failure. It is not understood how foxglove got its name.

Miranda has heather. Once disdained due to associations with rural poverty (it was once used in brooms) it is now a popular plant in gardens and some food items. It is also often used in charms for luck and sentimental jewelry.

Marie has the lilac; blue lilacs in particular can symbolize tranquility. Additionally, lilac wood is some of the densest in Europe and is traditionally used in engraving and to make musical instruments. They are also extremely fragrant - in aromatherapy, lilacs can help fight depression and aid relaxation.

Link has the marigold. Marigolds grow well in almost any type of soil, and grow fairly easily from the previous season’s seeds or leftover stems. They are used in gardens to deter insects, and the roots have antibacterial properties. It is also used in several food items.

Cross has hellebore. Hellebores are grown in gardens for decorative purposes, and are known to be frost-resistant, sometimes evergreen. Also, hellebore flowers surround a ring of cup-like nectaries that contain nectar. They are also  poisonous, and are associated with the summoning of demons in witchcraft. Historically, it has been used to sabotage enemy combatants and to assassinate Alexander the Great.

Marianda Second Exorcist AU

Imagine Marie and Miranda in the place of Kanda and Alma, as Second Exorcists.

Miranda wakes up first, in a male body. She’s lonely and withdrawn and easily frightened; she stutters a lot and is extremely meek, keeps her eyes down and her cries quiet. The scientists have no idea how to get through to her.

Noise wakes up about a year later, blind from the start for no reason the scientists can discern. He’s wary and curt, but a little more curious than Miranda is and is usually the first to go through with something - the first to explore, to ask questions, to challenge. He’s not aggressive, but he’s not compliant either. Sometimes he gets angry and goes and holes up somewhere to be alone.

Miranda tries to be encouraging, and always seeks Noise out when he goes to hide. But she doesn’t really know what to do, either, and she doesn’t like it here; neither of them do. They spend a lot of time just sitting together, not touching, not talking, just sitting. Sometimes Miranda cries, but she’s quiet.

Sometimes Noise talks about what might be outside, and Miranda likes to listen but is too afraid to speculate; the scientists never seem to appreciate it. Edgar gives them books, after a while, and Miranda devours them, but Noise refuses to even listen most of the time.

Then Noise starts to hallucinate, hearing voices and sounds that aren’t there. He tells Miranda immediately, and they both hide it from the scientists because they don’t know how they’ll react.

Eventually, though, Noise collapses, and Miranda runs for help, crying because she doesn’t want to lose her only friend. They take him in.

And then she hears that they’re going to kill him, and she breaks in when they leave for a minute and sneaks him out. They both get caught on their way out, and Noise is taken to the room they’ll kill him in, while Miranda is locked up in an adjacent room.

Noise wakes up and remembers, and he frightens Miranda with his quiet, venomous accusations, because she doesn’t remember yet. She peeks through the keyhole, and when they activate the spell and he starts dying, she remembers.

She activates, and freezes time.

She goes and tries to get him out, crying because she remembers and she’s scared and so confused and hurt and betrayed, and she wants out of there, she wants out of the Order.

But they get caught again, and Miranda gets burned by the CROW, and Noise only remembers a little now, not quite who Miranda was, and he’s furious and young and he lashes out. The CROW who hurt Miranda dies, but Edgar gets caught in it too, and he freezes and they want out but he doesn’t want to hurt them.

And they're brought in, and this time, they don’t get free.

This time, Miranda is threatened with Noise’s death if she doesn’t become an exorcist again and not tell Noise what she knows, and Noise is threatened with the same in reverse.

Both of them agree, but Noise resents it, and it puts a break in their relationship that makes every word into a blade. Miranda keeps reaching out, but Noise wants to find the woman he used to love, and even while he won’t let her die, he resents that she made that harder for him, however unintentionally.

They’re assigned to different masters; Noise goes to Tiedoll, who gives him the name Marie, and Miranda to Yeegar, who gives her the name Lotto (which she uses but doesn’t go by), teaches her how to best act defensively, and gives her lots of books to read but not many stories.

They don’t work it out for a very long time.

Like. Miranda keeps trying to confess but her face gets sooooo red and she starts stuttering and talking approximately 30000 words per minute of gibberish before running away and Marie just stands there like ‘wat’ because he doesn’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Marie tries to hint at it and says things like “You can always rely on me whenever things are hard.” and “I will always be by your side, no matter what.” but Miranda interprets these as ‘OH NO HE THINKS I’M UNRELIABLE AND CAN’T BE LEFT BY MYSELF I’M SORRY I’M SUCH A BURDEN ON YOUUUU and it’s like no miranda no full romo.

It gets to the point where they sit on opposite ends of the table and are like.  “ahaha.  lovely weather we’ve been having.  ahaha.  ha.” and everyone is GROANING INWARDLY STOP THIS JUST HOLD HANDS ALREADY.

It probably isn’t until something bad happens and they’re both too physically and mentally exhausted to care about what-ifs and just. hold each other very close and whisper ‘I love you.’  Of course immediately after that they break apart with a red face and apologize but they look shyly away and their fingers are still intertwined and it’s the cutest shit in the universe bye
