Marius/Daniel, In a Mystery Set at Court, Chapter 1

Daniel arrives at Court to spend time with Marius during a Court Sabbatical, as Marius is the only one not taking a real break, but as soon as he arrives, a young vampire is immolated by the sun under strange circumstances.

This is for @maridaniweek's prompt "Enchanted." In just under the wire (or a day late depending on your time zone) because work keeps making me do my job (rude!).

This is a multichapter fic and I usually don't post these unless the whole thing is basically done already, but uh... I'm running behind so I'm posting Chapter 1 now and then will update as often as I'm able. (Chapter 2 is also complete so I will try to post it later this week.)

This has Court Shenanigans, a bunch of minor characters and cameos, a weird little mystery and problem for Marius and Daniel to solve, and lots of kissing and flirting and some angst. I hope you enjoy it!

“How come we don’t do this anymore? Taking baths together,” Daniel asked, resting his weight against Marius' broad chest.

“We’re taking one right now,” the man responded absent-mindedly.

They were relaxing in the warm water. Daniel’s idea, naturally. He was nestled in-between Marius’ legs, his lover’s arms cradling Daniel’s body and his face pressed against Daniel’s shoulder so the fledgling felt the tickle of Marius’ lips each time the man spoke. And Daniel had his hand in water, kneading and squeezing Marius’ thigh lazily.

“Yes, well, you know what I meant. We take them together less often”.

“Did you have another dream about me?” Daniel asked, quietly. “Getting hurt?”

Marius stilled. Due to the way he’d pressed Daniel into the bed, Daniel could feel just how still he’d become, in every muscle of his ancient form. Daniel thought that, perhaps, that answered that question.

Marius’ own answer to the question, however, was to press himself even further against and into Daniel into what, with most other people, would have been a decidedly filthy grind. With Marius, it was just…elegant. Or it would have been. Daniel knew Marius well enough to know when he was being intentionally distracted..

“You had a dream about Armand.”

Marius ground deeply into him again, but Daniel could feel the tension in the older vampire. As Marius started to drag himself slowly back out of Daniel’s body for the next thrust, he finally spoke.

“Yes.”

He sounded wrecked, and not the way Daniel liked someone fucking him to sound wrecked. Daniel sighed, and this time it wasn’t due to the next calculatedly slow penetration.
