when did my generation become so obsessed with the 'temporary'?
everything nowadays is done in a rush. even the people who say we shouldn't rush things (relationships/life in general) are doing all the rushing they have room for. when did it become so appealing to immerse ourselves into the shallow pleasures of life even if we know they're going to scar us later? i don't think i'm making any sense, but i guess what i'm trying to say is, where is the eternal joy in all those things? when you live life just trying to jump from one high to another it only makes for a hollow and hurried heart lacking in true peace. the phrase "life is short" or "yolo" can easily turn into senseless decisions that make it look like we do not trust in the good things that are ahead. too often i've witnessed relationships fail because people are in such desperation to give off the impression that they've got it all figured out or because deep down they're trying to fill a void in their life that they think this other person is going to fill for them. we no longer have any control over our desires, temptations, and wants. we need to take a good hard look at ourselves and figure out what it is we need. it's like we're trying to stay afloat before we're sure we're going to drown. i'd rather take my time and find the joy and meaning of life than to put my heart and energy into the quickness of things.
