They're Utterly Unbeatable
Read it on Ao3 as well! https://archiveofourown.org/works/37954795
Marinette was never particularly athletic. She was the type of girl who would turn up to sport, do her best, be an awesome team player, and move on.
That was, until she became Ladybug, something that no one but Adrien knew. Since then, she’d become incredibly agile, fast and kept everyone on their toes during sport classes (as well as becoming scarily competitive); facts that none of her class could fathom.
Watching Marinette play tennis with Alya against Rose and Juleka, it was clear who was winning. Marinette was racing left and right with a determined look on her face, hitting every ball that flew in their direction, and serving with perfect accuracy.
“Has Marinette always been so good at sport?” Kim pondered, asking Max. “Like, I mean, she was already good, but she’s even beating me now!” Kim pouted.
Max raised an eyebrow. “There’s a 76% certainty that she wasn’t as athletically proficient until the beginning of this year. Maybe she practised over the holidays?”
“Yeah, guys, but have you seen her with Adrien?” Alix sauntered up to them, tipping her cap.
“When Marinette and Adrien are on the same team together, it’s literally impossible to beat them. It’s like they’re a frickin’ couple!”
“Tell me about it,” Kim sighed heavily, rolling his eyes. “Just hope Mr D’Argencourt doesn’t make us do dodgeball tomorrow. They’re invincible against us!”

Kim couldn’t believe his ears the next day. He looked at Alix and Max in utter disbelief as Marinette and Adrien smiled at each other and were high fiving their unbeatable dodgeball team.
“We will NOT lose.” Kim said determinedly. “Right, guys?” Kim looked at his already defeated team with nothing but disappointment.
It was the ‘Lucky Charms’: Marinette, Adrien, Alya, Nino, Rose, Juleka and Mylene, against ‘The Vanquishers’: Kim, Max, Alix, Ivan, Sabrina and Nathaniel. Chloe obviously sat out, making up some excuse about her not wanting to ruin her hair, and because her Daddy said she didn’t have to.
“Ready to play, m’lady?” Adrien smirked at Marinette, grinning when she winked back at him.
“Always,” She smiled and prepared for battle.
Six balls were lined up horizontally in the middle of the basketball court, with both teams giving each other the death glare.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Mr D’Argencourt raised his eyebrows and dropped his whistle, startling many of the students who were already preparing to run. “I see those evil glares you’re sending toward each other. Dodgeball is a game of fun, of strategic prowess!” He chastised the usually tame class. “Not a place to make enemies and attack each other like wild animals!”
“Does that include cats and ladybugs?” Adrien whispered to Marinette, making her smile and lightly nudge him in response.
“I want to see a clean game. You all know the rules. Once you’re hit, you’re out for good. No hits above the shoulders count. No crossing the other team’s boundary, and when the last person on a team is out, it’s all over.” The entire class tuned out, already so used to this spiel, having played dodgeball together dozens of times already.
“Ready…” Marinette licked her lips and nodded to Alya. “Set…” Nino tossed his cap to the wind, and raked his hand through his hair. This meant business. “Go!” Mr D’Argencourt yelled, and the class went wild.
Marinette sprinted forward to grab two dodgeballs, and kicked another behind her to Alya. Kim managed to get one, while the rest of his team was attacked by flying pink spheres. Adrien stood in a battle pose, holding the ball above his head (with Marinette shielding him) and trying to figure out the best person to get out first. Max.
“There is a 99% chance that Adrien will attempt to get me out first but…- AAAHHHH!” Max shrieked as a dodgeball flew towards him, hitting him on the arm. “Shoot.” He grumbled, walking to the side of the room.
Adrien fist bumped Marinette before moving on to his next target, Marinette doing the same. Much of the ‘Lucky Charms’ had gotten out already because of Kim. Adrien and Marinette were the only ones left. However, they knew they could beat the opposing three people that were left in ‘The Vanquishers’; Alix, Kim and Nathaniel.
Nathaniel wasn’t a problem. There was a cacophony of shrieks every time a ball flew in his vicinity. He was still in by sheer luck and his snake-like dodging of each ball. He wasn’t picking any dodgeballs up either, so… Alix it was. Both Marinette and Adrien wanted to leave Kim last- for a final showdown.
“Same manoeuvre, kitty?” Marinette grinned.
“As usual!” Adrien replied, grabbing two balls, one in each hand and catapulting them towards Alix, one hitting her, and one hitting Nathaniel. Both students- well, just Alix really, were left fuming.
And then there was three. Adrien and Marinette vs Kim. Honestly, it wasn’t an even fight. Ladybug and Cat Noir vs Kim? He didn’t stand a chance. They knew that. He didn’t.
Adrien and Marinette had all the balls in their side of the court and Kim became visibly nervous at the prospect of him being hit simultaneously with six balls. The two superheroes did the right thing.
They chucked all the balls over to Kim’s side of the court, rolling them gently along the ground.
A cacophony of screams and shouts erupted from the sidelines, including Mr D’Argencourt himself, who had become incredibly invested in the game.
“WHAT A TWIST!” Mr D’Argencourt exclaimed. “IS IT STRATEGY OR DEFEAT?” He’d somehow become a voluntary commentator of the match.
“WHY, YOU GUYS? WHY?” Nino shouted.
“Nooooo! DON’T DO IT! DON’T BE THE BETTER PERSON!” Alya shrieked.
Kim’s eyebrows rose in suspicion as he collected the balls.
“Go ahead, all yours,” Adrien gave him the most angelic smile, before turning to Marinette and nodding determinedly.
Kim’s aim was all over the place, with him attempting to throw all six pink spheres at the same time. The blonde boy and the blue-haired girl dodged the balls with such grace and accuracy that if you’d recorded the moment in slow motion, it would have looked like it came out of a movie battle scene.
“M’lady, I give you the honours.” Adrien got down on one knee and presented Marinette with a singular pink dodgeball. “Thank you, kitty,” Marinette winked, before swiftly turning and aiming directly at Kim’s arm, while he flailed around in fear.
SMACK! Went the dodgeball against Kim’s red t-shirt. And with that, the ‘Lucky Charms’ had won. Once again.
Cheers erupted from the team, while ‘The Vanquishers’ trudged over to them, shaking their hands and congratulated them bitterly on their win.
“That was absolutely vicious, guys!” Alya cheered and high fived Marinette and Adrien. “It’s like you guys had rehearsed it or something!”
“Yeah, something like that,” Marinette grinned at Adrien, a feeling of warmth filling her up to the brim as Adrien took her in his arms and spun her around, laughing.
