You know, I always thought it was a bit of a confusing ending to one of the greatest stories of all time:
"The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened"
- Mark 16: 8
It sort of makes you go 'huh? You mean that's it?'.
Well, at my bible study last night we discovered a greater meaning to be had from it. Mark wasn't a poor writer. He was brilliant, in fact.
The ending is a challenge (or many scholars interpret it so). It's just asking you what you're going to do about it. He gives you the biggest news in history - Jesus rose from the dead. They were too scared to say anything at first. Will you remain silent out of fear... or act?
Of course, my initial excitement at realising the meaning was there was subdued somewhat by the challenge itself. Am I brave enough to act? Do I even know how to act on this? I hope and pray that I can.
Peace be with you, brothers and sisters. I hope god gives you joy.
