Help one of our fandom elders!
Hi, we are Vinson and Changa, reaching out to our community on behalf of our beloved p… Rodney Stansfield needs your support for Help a Tru
Mark Merlino is one of the co-founders of The Cartoon/Fantasy Organization, which was the FIRST anime club in North America. He ALSO organized ConFurence, the very first furry convention. Help a true fandom elder as he enters hospice care: donate or boost his Gofundme campaign if you can!
extremely devastated to hear about the news regarding mark merlino (the creator of skiltaires + one of the founders of the furry fandom + anime clubs in america). my heart genuinely goes out to him and his loved ones. apparently after being in the hospital with a stroke over the holidays, he's been diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer and is being prepared for hospice care.
i said this elsewhere already but i really hope he knows how loved and appreciated he is in this fandom for everything he's done for us. without him we wouldnt be here. his influence and love will live on through the fandom, and his legacy will live on through all of us too.
if you want to support him, please consider supporting his gofundme:

if you cant donate, please at least take a moment to give appreciation to your friends and loved ones in the fandom and the fandom overall. you dont have to make a post or anything but maybe just take a little second to think about all that the fandom's done for you, and feel the love in your heart for everything the fandom has offered, and recognize that all that we have was kickstarted by mark himself. without him, we wouldnt be where we are today.
if you want to send him a message on his socials, i encourage you to do that as well and let him know how much we appreciate the time he's given to our lives and this fandom. honestly just any positive and loving vibes going out today would be amazing, because he deserves it all.

Rest in peace Mark Merlino/Sy Sable. The fandom has shaped me to the man i am today and its Mark and Rod O'Riley. Wanted to do a piece as a thanks. Prance on mark <3
My heart goes out to Sy's partners and family after his passing. My deepest condolences to those who knew him personally or who were otherwise touched by his work and are currently grieving this loss. May his memory live on and inspire many.
The passing of Mark Merlino was heartbreaking news to wake up to this morning- I'm still trying to put my thoughts into legible words, but I don't think that's possible for me right now, so I wanna be able to draw something for him in soon instead.
It feels almost intrusive to wanna draw artwork for him when I didn't know him personally, but I'm trying to move past that and see it as a means of showing how much influence he had on me, even if it was completely indirectly.
I wouldn't at all be the person that I am today if it weren't for Mark and the other founding fathers of the furry fandom, which is crazy to think, but I wouldn't have found my current supportive friend group(s) if being a furry didn't kickstart my entire history on the internet.
I owe Mark so much, and it's so heartbreaking to see such a wonderful member of the community pass from a disease as horrible as cancer, but I feel relief in knowing that the furry community won't ever let his memory die.
Thank you Mark, I wish I could've had the opportunity to meet you one day.
with everything else going on everyone was posting about. i missed this when i woke up.
