I #animated this dog last night while watching (or listening to) #klaus with my students last night. It’s straight ahead, make it up as you go #animation. Not perfect by any means. When I was at #Disney, my mentor, #MarkHenn pushed me to add all the overlap and everything (dialogue too) all at once, as you animate. Not in separate passes. It makes a difference. You’ll at least get it close and be able to time things out better also. You’re going to do a second pass anyway, right? Here is a #blastfromthepast. I cant believe i found these haha. About a decade ago I was an #apprenticeanimator on #PrincessandtheFrog. Here are some shots I animated on the #movie. Rough #animation and the final version. I #animated a lot of tiny frogs throughout this film haha. I was a beginner and totally freaked out that I was actually working on a hand drawn #Disney Feature film. It was a dream come true. I worked with #MarkHenn through most of the production since he was the lead on #princessTiana. I worked with Randy Haycock on #Naveen as well as with #EricGoldberg on a couple of Louis shots. Very small background Louis shots haha. It was such an awesome experience. #ronandjohn were directors on this film and I finally got to work with them again recently on #Moana! #animator #2danimation #traditionalanimation #handdrawnanimation (at Walt Disney Animation Studios)

I had a nice trip through time over the weekend when I found an amazingly high quality copy (off laserdisc) of Roger Rabbit in “Trail Mix Up” on #youtube - This was my first short to work on right after being promoted to Animator at Disney. It was made in the Florida studio and was our first short to be made completely there with no help from the California studio. We had a lot to prove and we pulled out all the stops. I animated alongside @aaronblaiseart and watched #markhenn buzz through a ton of scenes- even animating some of the sexiest #Jessicarabbit scenes you’ve ever seen (imagine Mr Rodgers animating and you’ll get the irony). And the backgrounds!! All hand painted watercolor paintings by some of the best painters in the industry! The first three shots are my scenes/drawings (I’m still proud of inventing the little eyeballs filling up even bigger eyes “take”) and the rest are Easter eggs (there are many more) in the short. The “Mink-off” spray was an ode to the director, @robminkoff , Space Mountain got a three frame mention since we worked in #WDW , and in the #markhenn scene where #Rogerrabbit spits the bees out of his mouth, cleanup artist @electrictiki had fun and changed a few of them into other characters. (There’s one or two more, but you need to slow it way down). Leave a comment if you have a love for Roger Rabbit it found other Easter eggs. Go search it on YouTube first! Wrap up of another great @ctnanimexpo ! My bro (@pumbaaguy ) and I had a great time and sported our #noshavenovember goatees. My twin daughters were here also so we got a “twins” picture in. And saw many old friends like #tedty #tedty @johnripa #tdanhonstadt #markhenn @dave_bossert @mattwilliames and so many others. We did four panels and @philcreative and I premiered a clip from our @penciltestmovie #documentary too! Last photo is of my girls and their two best friends do when you are a cheerleader and you hike to the top of the Hollywood sign. Of course!
