Jessica Rabbit from Roger Rabbit
Whaaa?? Roger Rabbit???
Jessica Rabbit | Roger Rabbit
Starlit skies stretched over Toontown, the whimsical realm known for its animated charm and eccentric denizens. But when dusk draped the cartoonish façades, an unsettling twist awaited, turning the land of laughter into a nightmarish kaleidoscope. Among the vibrant streets filled with cheeky characters and bouncing buildings, Jessica Rabbit, famed for her dazzling auburn curls and sultry voice, stepped into a gathering of shadows and secrets.
Every corner of Toontown held strange mysteries, but tonight, an inexplicable force tugged at the edges of reality, whispering to her a tale only she could unravel. Jessica, with an instinct honed by the thrill of performance and a heart of fierce resolve, felt an urgency in her steps. Her glamorous attire, a shimmering red gown that hugged her curves and left a trail of envious glances, contrasted with the somber atmosphere that was creeping in—a sharp pulse that crackled in the air.
Without warning, streets that once stretched comfortably into the distance began to warp and twist, the familiar layout morphing into a labyrinth that distorted her sense of direction. Buildings leaned in, their cartoon-style features turning sinister as windows seemed to leer with malice, flickering like hollow eyes. The whimsical architecture transformed; candy-colored walls warped into ominous silhouettes, and the joyous laughter that typically filled the air was replaced with an echoing whisper—a chorus of sinister secrets shared only among shadows.
“What’s happening?” Jessica whispered, her voice threading through the swirling fog that enveloped her. The sweet scent of cotton candy mixed with the unmistakable aroma of danger, stinging her senses. A chill ran down her spine, but for someone accustomed to the bizarre, fear twisted into curiosity.
Her heels clicked against the warped pavement, each sound resonating like a countdown to an unknown reckoning. Then came the first specter, a mere flicker in her peripheral vision that made her stop short. It darted past a twisted lamppost, a blur of color and shadow. Jessica's heart raced. Toontown was home to many zany creatures, but this felt different—darker, more primal.
Determined to confront the source of unease, she turned a corner, pushing through an increasingly thick haze. The world around her felt alive, every brick and cobblestone pulsing with energy and threat. A sea of memories flooded her mind as she recalled tales of the Inkblot Forest, a place where tales took on vivid, and often terrifying, forms; a realm where shadows played tricks, and one could easily become lost forever.
“Stay calm, Jessica,” she murmured to herself, summoning whatever courage she had. “If anyone can handle a twist in reality, it’s you.”
Suddenly, the street split into two, each path cloaked in an eerie twilight. One side shimmered with a faint light, promising hope, while the other dripped with shadows, whispering tales of despair. An instinctual pull tugged at her heart, guiding her toward the shadowy path. Something sinister lay in those obscured depths, and she sensed the truth would reveal itself only when stripped of the comforting guise of familiarity.
An unwavering chill settled over her as she ventured deeper into the darkness, where silhouettes danced just beyond her line of sight. Whispers filled the air, half-formed words that slithered through her consciousness—a song of torment and despair weaved into her very being. Yet, along with the fear, an undeniable thrill surged through her. Could it be that she was closer to uncovering the cosmic secret that beckoned her?
With each step, the shadows coiled around her like tendrils, tugging at her gown and elongating her silhouette against the warped backdrop. The path seemed endless, with every twist reminiscent of a story yet unfinished; each frayed edge of reality bled into the next, and Jessica felt herself being pulled deeper into a tale that lived beyond the understanding of any cartoon character.
A distant sound captured her attention—an echo, both melodic and haunting, reverberated through the thick fog. It lured her, a siren’s song woven with intrigue and dread. Cautiously, she followed the melody, her heart pounding, each note a warning and a summons, merging into a hypothesis that perhaps she wasn’t alone in this realm of absurdity.
As she progressed, hues of red began to dominate, pulling her gaze toward a central figure standing at the intersection of alternate realities. A shimmering silhouette …(more at https://www.deviantart.com/jadegretzai). What better way to celebrate the 37th anniversary of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” than to show all of the Roger Rabbit drawings I’ve done over the years?
Have I improved? Maybe. I don’t know.
I’ll let y’all be the judge of that.
