helloooo <3 thank you for asking. i have chosen 'the priory of the orange tree' by samantha shannon for this one! it's most likely the only fantasy novel i'll be reccing bc it's not usually a genre i gravitate towards, but i did really really like this one. it's very big but i read it during the summer in a few days, which seems like the right way to read it. i love the characters and the romance, and the idea that there is truth to be found abt the world and its history in every mythology or religion, because they're just different ways to deal with the same events and feelings. i also have a very vivid memory of reading one particular scene while listening to lilac wine by jeff buckley and it was absolutely perfect so it stuck with me

because taking this party setting where lola has only ever been in constant motion and hard dancing and flashing lights and keeping her still until she sees maya and they move away from the pusling music together to just talk and be? moments that are usually so sped up for lola being something comfortable that she can reach for

vs TODAY when again, lola sees maya first, and maybe the world still slows down for her, we don't know, but we do know that when maya sees her everything is clearer and brighter and there's a smile on her face. and after a week apart and fighting and everything with their friends, all maya needs is to see lola and the world is back in focus

yes yes yes exactly !! so interesting to think about how bilal upcycles his clothes out of his own interest and passion but also probably out of necessity as hand-made patches and drawings are the cheapest way to make something interesting out of a piece of clothing he probably got from a charity shop like we saw in that earlier clip, and then how that same kind of look is being co-opted by big fashion brands and celebrities who then make a profit off of it. whew the layers this show could dive into....

also I recently went through bilal’s insta and it’s so cool to see how much fashion inspo he’s posted like it’s so clearly a big part of his character and personality !! so I’m hoping they really dive into it since it seems like they’ve set it up well (would Love to see him try to enter the industry or like...start to consider that as a career path). and I noticed pictures of more items of clothing that look like he’s altered/added to them and I want to see more! I want to hear about when he started getting into style and fashion! and how he found his influences! and how much of his wardrobe has been pieced together from different sources and his own creativity! sigh there is so much there ur so right

wait ur post about rvd/pll exactly!! everyone says teen wolf/glee walked so rvd could run but pll paved the way just as much tbh! like they vaguely leaned into the supernatural + went batshit insane in those last few seasons, but bc the show continuously marketed itself as a mystery (and focused entirely on ONE mystery: A's identity), i think people were less accepting of its camp/plotholes/ending to the mystery they'd been waiting 7 seasons for. (1/2)

i completely forgot to answer this when u sent it last night but yeah exactly. rvd has taken parts of a lot of teen shows and thrown them together into whatever it is but the difference (between rd and pll, i have many thoughts and opinions about glee for another time and i never finished teen wolf) is that pll took itself SO seriously instead of being like this is kind of ridiculous. let's have fun with it and make it kinda campy and dumb whereas i think for the first 3 seasons of rd they kind of knew they were on a silly little show so the cast wasn't taking it TOO seriously like they were having fun! it's fun if you can just watch it and have fun like yeah it's bad but must all shows be good yknow
