Henning Larsen (August 21, 1925 - 2013) was a Danish architect whose firm designed some conspicuous public buildings in Copenhagen and cities worldwide.
Yesterday we had Marmorkirken which is at one end of the Amalienborg axis in Copenhagen; today we show the new Royal Opera House which is at the other end of that axis.
Henning Larsen created the design, shipping magnate Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller paid for it, and the Opera was opened by the Queen in 2005. Inside one can see some of the artwork commissioned for the Opera, for instance Olafur Eliasson’s three giant chandeliers...

The Marble Church in Copenhagen was opened on August 19, 1894. The construction had begun 145 years earlier, and the church was not fully completed according to the original plans. Nonetheless the structure completes the Amalienborg axis through the capital in spectacular fashion - an axis more recently extended into the harbor front by the new opera house...
