what are some of your blaseball headcanons?
oh i have SO many, mostly related to The Breath Mints. so i hope thats ok!
One headcanon i really love is that Hewitt Best, our resident union leader, also just kept his handyman business up and running after blaseball started. I think that Hew grew up in a really working class family, and he comes from a family with a long history of union work. I don't think he ever went to college or anything, and blaseball was just a hobby for him before joining the team. He worked as just an all around handyman who was known for doing his job well but also being... incredibly caring about the community and being reasonable with his prices (and known to do a job for free if the need was dire) in the time after high school up until he got recruited. He kept doing handyman work for free all throughout his time in blaseball as a form of mutual aid, and his red truck was well known throughout kansas city and its surrounding areas.
Rodriguez Internet, aka rod.net, knew Hewitt really well when he was alive, before blaseball even, they probably played in the same hobby splorts league or whatever you call it and they cared... so much about each other. They had that sort of comfortable friendship where you aren't quite best friends with them, but you're still very very close to one another. I think Rod went on jobs with him sometimes, and probably used the "business" as a way to just reconnect with Hew every once in awhile. He learned a lot from him on those jobs, and when Hew dies he left the truck to Rod in his will (all blaseball players have wills, they all know they can die at any moment) and asked him to teach PDZ how to drive in it since he never got the chance to teach them. Rod does that, and he picks up Hew's contact info and continues the work he started.
PDZ (polkadot zavala)... she got faxed out of the game LITERALLY the day before hewitt died. Hew was like the father she never had, she LOVED him like one and sometimes she'd even call him that (he was only 26 when they met and they were 19 and still barely even out of dottie's shadows when she became a fully fledged person, but that doesn't matter to them) so it really hurt when he died. They did the whole survivors guilt thing that they tend to do when someone they care about (read: anyone) dies on the team even after so many years since blaseball started and it takes them a while to really just... accept that he died. She's a total WRECK in the process of grieving hew and the whole team knows and is trying to console her (team baby pdz my beloved), when she sort of just realizes oh my god. Now that he's gone who the FUCK is gonna negotiate with Betmint, he's just gonna walk all over us. And so SHE picks up union organizing and SHE takes over for him as a way to feel closer to him. And sometimes she can feel his smile and she just KNOWS that he's proud of her and that's enough.
also Marquez Clark is the only person who has ever gotten close to/fully seen The Spearmint and he is forever cursed to be a preppy vampire. also they dated while Marq was in the shadows the first time and he completely forgot their passionate love affair when he exited the shadows, and any time he tried to remember it felt like he was having a MASSIVE hangover. he returns to the shadows and suddenly remembers EVERYTHING and has MASSIVE regrets. its like the regrets you have from a one night stand but you dated them for literal years.
