if marriagegate is real, i don’t even know how to begin unpacking the implications of dan and phil waiting almost 17 years to tie the knot.

like, was dan’s noncommittal/“i don’t want marriage” thing just a shtick and a way to hide their relationship better? was it a way to cope with the reality of not being able to get married even if they wanted to so they could avoid getting outed? to soften the blow of reality that it was something they could never have? to make it hurt less?

or was it real and dan just finally was able to unpack WHY he felt noncommittal about marriage, and has now come around to wanting that?
