Hailey's had a hunch for a couple of days now, and she thinks she's ready to find out once and for all if it is what she think it is. How will she tell Jay?
“Everything you make me feel… I don’t want to get used to it,” she paused, “You put your hands on my hips, and I feel your ring, and I get butterflies. You stand there and watch me like I’m the best thing you’ve ever seen, you run your fingers through my hair when you know I’ve had a rough day, you can talk me down from a panic attack. Jay and Hailey were used to chaos, and they loved it. But, they also loved the occasional lazy day, especially since getting married. They hadn’t gotten too much of a chance to just enjoy being married.
Sitting on the couch, curled into Jay’s side with his arm around her, Hailey twisted her ring back and forth. Jay’s hand, the one not wrapped around Hailey, was sitting on the armrest. She stared at his ring. She bit her lip at the sight. She couldn’t help it. It still took her breath away. She hoped she never got used to the feeling she was overcome with whenever her brain would randomly remind her that Jay did, indeed, marry her.
When she pulled away to look up at Jay, he was already looking at her. He’d always been able to tell when she was looking at him, whether it was in the bullpen when it was her way of checking on him or when he was making dinner and she was staring at him from her perch on the counter. He kissed the crown of her head spurring on Hailey’s thoughts. Jay was so soft and gentle with her. She threw her leg over his, her knees on either sides of his thighs. His hands found her waist under her (his) shirt. She bit her lip again at the feeling of his ring against her skin.
“Hi,” Jay peered up at her like she was the only thing in the world.
“Hi,” Hailey replied, still in awe of the way he looked at her.
One hand held Jay's jaw while the other was pressed firmly against his chest. The low light from the TV made Hailey’s hair glow from where it shone behind her. In his t-shirt and her favorite pair of joggers, her hair falling around her face, Jay thought she looked like a goddess. Hailey rested her forehead against Jay’s before pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, “Hey, what’s up?” He knew her well enough to know something was on her mind. But he also knew her well enough to know it was nothing bad.
“I love you,” she said, watching the corner of Jay’s lips quirk up.
“I love you, too.”
“Can I say something really mushy?”
“I’m interested to see where this is going,” Jay quipped, an entertained smile playing at his lips.
“I don’t ever want to get used to this.”
“Used to what?”
“You. Us.”
Jay’s hands squeezed her hips under her shirt. Hailey sat back on his lap to get a better look at him.
“Everything you make me feel… I don’t want to get used to it,” she paused, “You put your hands on my hips, and I feel your ring, and I get butterflies. You stand there and watch me like I’m the best thing you’ve ever seen, you run your fingers through my hair when you know I had a bad day, you can talk me down from a panic attack. You make me feel safe, and you love me. The way you love me-”
She was trying not to cry, looking at her ring from where her hand laid on his chest.
“Hailey, I love you more than anything,” Jay repeated her words back to her, “You are the single best thing that has ever happened to me.”
He tucked a curl behind her ear, “From the very beginning of our partnership, you forced me to be better. You were so goddamn pushy.”
They both chuckled.
That look, Hailey thought. It was that look she told him about, like she was the only woman he’d ever seen. And to him, she was. She was the only one that mattered.
“But, I’m better for it. You make me better. I’d probably be dead if it wasn’t for you,” he hesitated, “You get that, don’t you?”
Hailey let out a puff of air somewhere between a gasp, sigh, and scoff. A tear slipped from her eye. Jay brushed it away.
She leaned in to wrap her arms around his neck, his hands vacating their position under her shirt and wrapping around her waist. Hailey tucked her head into the crook of his neck, and Jay pressed a kiss to the shoulder he could reach.
Hailey wasn’t sure how long they stayed like this, but eventually, she pulled back to look at Jay, “You’re mine.”
“I’ve always been yours.”
He leaned in to kiss her again. Through the course of their day off, they shared plenty of lazy kisses and forehead kisses, but this one was different. Jay wrapped his arms around Hailey’s waist again, pulling her closer, despite there being no space left between them. A moan escaped her lips. He reached for the hem of her shirt and pulled it over her head, both thoroughly pleased with her decision not to wear a bra. He threw the shirt somewhere behind them. Hailey did the same to him.
Breaking away, Jay brushed his hand across her cheek, “God, I love you.”
Hailey reconnected their lips, relishing in the feeling and smiling into the kiss. She tugged at his bottom lip. Her hands raked through the hair at the back of his head. Jay traced up her abdomen to eventually feel her pebbled nipples under his fingertips. Her head fell back at the sensation. She gripped Jay’s hair, harder than she meant to causing him to let out a heady moan.
Jay pushed off the couch to stand. Hailey’s legs wrapping around his waist, not only making it easier for him to carry her but because she wanted to keep him close. Her lips were attached to his shoulder, sucking a mark into his skin. Once having reached his destination, Jay sat down on the edge of the bed. Hailey pushed him down as his hands threaded through her hair and pulled it away from her face.
His hands still in her hair, Jay trailed kisses from her kiss swollen lips to her neck, “I’ve always been yours.”

Just wrote a little Chicago PD one shot that takes place after 9X09.
One of my biggest complaints about last season and this season is the lack of Halstead brothers content! I figured we probably wouldn’t get to see Will’s reaction to his brother getting married on our screens so I wrote a fic about it!
Please be gentle! It’s only my 3rd story. Not a huge fan of how I ended it but I kind of suck at writing ending so it is what it is! Let me know what you think!
This one is all on your @girlinlotsoffandoms ! 🤣 Though, I will admit I do love these rabbit holes we always seem to find ourselves in. Thank you for this fun little prompt!!

“But I don’t wanna wear them mama,” Ella pouted.
Hailey sighed but she was not surprised. Ella pushed the offending object towards Hailey.
“I know baby,” Hailey started. “But they’re gonna help you.”
Ella crossed her arms over her chest and frowned - rather adorably too- but Hailey couldn’t let her know that.
“I don’t need them!” Ella bemoaned. “I don’t like them.”
“Ella -“ Hailey started wondering what more she could do to convince her daughter. “What if you wear them and we go out for some ice cream? See if you like wearing them for just a little bit, hm?”
Ella looked like she was considering her offer but in the end she merely shook her head. Hailey resisted the urge to bang her head against the table. Ella took that as her moment to make a run for it. Hailey didn’t bother to chase her. No doubt they would be having this conversation again, a little later. From behind, she heard his soft chuckles and she scowled.
“Don’t laugh!” She scolded. “You should be the one doing this! You wear them too.”
“Yes, but I won the toss so ...” Jay laughed and Hailey scowled again, but it only resolved to make him laugh a little more.
“Just tell her how much you love wearing them! How much easier it is now that you can see in fantastic HD quality or that it makes your head hurt a little less or whatever.”
“But I don’t love wearing them,” he countered.
She wanted to groan but decided on a different idea. Hailey smirked leaning a little closer into his space. He watched her intently, grasping at each and every detail.
“Well that’s a shame, because I happen to love them on you.”
His eyes darkened and he reached for her almost immediately. “Really?”
She leaned in a little more as if sharing a secret. “Yes, really detective,” the word rolling of her tongue in that low seductive tone she reserved only for him. “In fact, I wouldn’t mind seeing you in them a little more ... but you just hate it so much...” she stopped leaving it for him to fill in the rest. He lips turned up just a little as she rose from her seat.
It was only a little while later, that Hailey saw the effects of her words. Hailey and Ella were watching a movie when Jay joined them. They were sprawled out on the couch. Hailey on one end and Ella with her head just short of laying in her mother’s lap as she lay down, watching the movie. Her golden hair was within Hailey’s reach though, as she played with it absently. Ella’s attention barely left the movie so she didn’t notice anything, but Hailey did. She didn’t say a word though, simply smiling as Jay winked at her and then plopped down beside Ella.
“Are you finished working now, daddy?” Ella asked though her attention was still fixed onto the tv.
“I am. I get to spend the rest of the day with my girls,” he told her.
That earned him a big smile and Ella turned to look at him. She gasped, sitting up instantly. She stood on the couch and Jay had a hand around her, ensuring she didn’t fall.
“Daddy!” She cried, “you wear them too?”
Jay made a show of feigning innocence. “Wear what?”
“Those,” she pointed to his face. “Glasses!” She whispered, like it was a great secret.
“Am I still wearing them?” He asked playfully and Ella nodded. She leaned in a little closer to her father, inspecting his glasses. “Oh I guess I forgot to take them off.” He fidgeted with them for a second and then made to take them off but Ella stopped him.
“Why do you wear them?” she asked.
“Because they help me to see better,” he answered. “I can see you and mama and everything so much clearer now.” He sighed, making sure to sound extra aggrieved. “But I don’t like wearing them.” He tried taking them off again, but Ella stopped him.
“Daddy if you take them off, you’re not gonna see me! Or mama! Or the movie!” She cried, each new thing on her list growing with a gasp.
“But baby, how are you watching the movie? Or seeing us?” Jay quickly countered. “You need to wear them too, don’t you?”
Ella frowned a little, looking so much like Hailey as she thought it over.
Jay peeked a glanced at Hailey, to find her smiling behind her hand. She didn’t intervene, knowing Jay would likely be the only one to get Ella to wear her glasses.
“But I don’t like them.”
“I don’t like mine either,” Jay gently reminded her. “But they help me a lot. Why don’t you try yours on? We can wear them together ?”
Ella nodded slowly. He reached for her glasses that were kept on the coffee table. Ella hesitated for a moment and both Hailey and Jay thought she might change her mind. But she didn’t. Rather, she took the glasses and quickly put them on, scrunching her face in displeasure as she adjusted.
A moment later both Hailey and Jay saw her features soften and Jay knew it was that moment of unbelievable zen now that she was seeing clearly.
“”Wow baby, they look so good on you!” Hailey cheered. “And look they match daddy’s!”
And they really did. Both sets of glasses were identical only, Jay’s were a little more well-worn and larger in size.
She beamed at her parents. “I look like daddy?” She asked sweetly.
Hailey chuckled because despite having her hair colouring, Ella had Jay’s smile and eyes and now with those little black rimmed glasses, they were an absolute set.
“Yeah, baby. Just like daddy!” Hailey chuckled as Ella blushed and turned to her father.
“Better?” Jay asked. Ella nodded. “You gonna wear them now?”
Ella paused. “Are you gonna?” She asked in reply.
“Yeah,” Jay answered and Hailey could hear the small resignation in his voice. He didn’t like his glasses, hated wearing them but for Ella he would do it.
He wore them as often as he could after that. Much to the delight of both Ella and Hailey. It gave Ella the encouragement to wear her glasses and nowadays when Hailey stumbled across the pair in some activity or the other, it was to the sight of identical mischievous eyes behind black rimmed glasses and her heart always stuttered a little.
Jay had gotten so used to wearing his glasses around the house that on one morning, he had forgotten he was even wearing them as they arrived at the district. It was Vanessa who pointed it out to him.
“Well, I’ll be damned, Halstead,” she started and both Jay and Hailey looked at her. She smirked. “Naturally even you would make glasses look good.”
Jay frowned and then a moment later, a faint blush spread across his cheeks. The others looked up too, paying closer attention now.
“When did you get those?” Adam asked. He looked like he was trying to remember when exactly he had missed this development.
Jay shrugged. “Ella’s finally got hers and she refused to wear them.” They were all somewhat aware of what had been an ongoing battle between Hailey and Ella over the now infamous glasses. “I told her I’d wear them with her.”
Hailey felt insanely proud in that moment and if the knowing looks Kim and Kevin gave her were anything to go by, it was probably all over her face.
“So ... did you actually need them or is it just a ploy for Ella?”
“Oh no I need them,” Jay said very seriously. “How else am I going to see through all your bullshit, Ruz?”
Adam rolled his eyes and the others laughed.
“You don’t need glasses for that, man,” Kevin quipped in before turning to Hailey, “So when do we get to see the little Miss with these infamous specs on?”
Hailey chuckled. “Soon. She’s so excited for everyone to see her wear them now that she knows Jay wears them all the time too.”
Beside her, Vanessa leaned in, lowering her voice to barely a whisper and asked Hailey rather cheekily, “All the time?”
Hailey blushed and then swatted her friend on the arm before chasing her off to do some real police work.
Though true to her word, they all got to see Ella just a few days later. Ella and her babysitter, Claire had come by the district and it was only supposed to be a five-minute visit. They had in their hands, delicious Loukoumades from Hailey’s favourite Greek restaurant. Claire had only intended to drop it off with Sergeant Trudy but Ella had insisted otherwise.
That was how she had found herself running up the stairs into the bullpen calling happily for her parents. Claire felt a little abashed when both Hailey and Jay looked at her a little surprised. But it didn’t last too long. They gushed over Ella, as they always did and Jay asked about as many questions as he could manage to get into Ella’s very detailed recital of her day.
“Uncle Kev!” Ella called and just like that she was running from one end to the other, just in time for her uncle to kneel so he could catch her.
“Hey Little Miss,” Kevin grinned. “And what are these?” he gentled nudged her glasses and she beamed.
“They’re my glasses. Just like daddy, so I can see good!”
“Yeah, I dig it,” Kevin praised. “You can see everything now, huh?”
Ella nodded. “Daddy says his help him to see mama and me better. And mama says mine makes me look like daddy a little bit too.” She seemed exceptionally proud of that last bit; nothing so exciting than being told she and Jay were more alike with each day.
“Nah, I don’t think so,” Adam said shaking his head. Ella turned to him, eyes wide and her lips already forming a little pout.
“Why not?”
Adam ignored the glare Jay was giving him and the way Hailey had crossed her arms over her chest. He kneeled beside Kevin, a smug little smile forming in his face. “Well, cause you just look a lot prettier with them than your daddy,” he winked and just as easily all her sadness melted away. “I mean … he could look very pretty if he wanted to be but not as pretty as you.”
She giggled. “Daddy doesn’t have to be pretty,” she shrugged. “But sometimes mama says he looks very s-
“Ella!” Hailey quickly interrupted. Looking thoroughly mortified as she tried to extract her daughter from her now overly smug looking friends. Kevin merely grinned as he tugged Ella closer to him and Adam – well he was going the right way for a left hook.
Jay smothered his own amusement as he watched, not entirely sure what he could do to diffuse the situation without making it worse.
Ella giggled again, this time with a hand balanced on one uncle as the other held her steady.
“Come on kiddo, you can tell us what she said. We’ll keep it a secret,” Adam bargained. Thankfully, Ella shook her head and he pouted rather dramatically. “Alright fine,” he sang. “But I’ll tell you what.”
“What?” she asked, her head tipping to the side and they all laughed.
“No matter what your mama might think, you’ll always be the prettiest Halstead.”
Ella grinned and with thank you’s to both her uncles, she rushed back to her parents. Jay scooped her up easily enough. They made the most adorable sight, heads bent together as they laughed quietly. The similarities between Ella and her parents was always striking, but it was even more so now.
