Marrish Appreciation Week Day 5: Alternate Universe(s) --- Summer Rain/WW2

August 11th 1942. Beacon Hills Train Station. The sky was grey and full of clouds, pouring down onto the platform as families and loved ones said their goodbyes. Lydia wanted to be strong. Jordan was doing his duty to protect their country. He was an honourable man; it was one of the many reasons why she had said yes to his proposal last month.

The train would be departing soon, taking her heart with it. They were running out of time. Lydia felt her throat constrict from the thought of never seeing him again. She wanted to remember the warmth of his touch, the beat of his heart against her ear, the whisper of her name on his lips.

But if there was one thing Jordan Parrish could do, it was his ability to always make her smile.

Jordan: Dance with me, Lydia.

Lydia: Now? Jordan, it’s raining cats and dogs.

Jordan: Yes, my love, right here, right now. Dance with me in the summer rain.

And so they did.

Lydia’s expectations were all of her own making, never shared with her boyfriend, and it’s not his fault she got her hopes up. Jordan’s surprise had been absolutely lovely: a long weekend for Valentine’s day in a small resort up the coast with a phenomenal view and a restaurant to die for, the deluxe spa package complete with a couple’s massage, and a gorgeous, delicate golden woven bracelet from her favorite jewelry store. With each step she felt more and more sure where the weekend was heading, but the moments—cuddling outside in front of the firepit, drinking champagne at dinner, swaying in his arms as they danced to a live band—had all passed, and now they’re on their last night and she still doesn’t have a ring on her finger.

Marrish Appreciation Week Day 3: Quotes & Lyrics --- Come Back to Bed

Last night was beyond Jordan’s wildest dreams, seeing the always-put-together Lydia Martin fall apart in his arms. She was so bare for him, allowing her walls to come down, to find a safe haven.

With sunlight peeking through the blinds, Jordan knows that he can’t let her just walk out of his life. All he wants to do is draw her back in and ask her to come back to bed. Back to their sanctuary with nothing between them but tangled up sheets. He knows Lydia had felt the connection too. The question is, can he convince her to stay?

The lack of effort spirals out from there—she changes out of her nicer work clothes and into leggings and a light cardigan over her top, takes out the hoops that have seemed progressively heavier as the day wore on and doesn’t bother to replace them, and looks at her footwear options for several long moments before shunning everything with a heel and sliding into a pair of flats.

It’s the worst she’s ever looked for a date.

The Draft isn’t Lydia’s first pick for a drink. It’s nowhere in her top ten, frankly—a sports bar that’s been in Beacon Hills long enough that the smell of smoke is still ingrained in the plaster walls, the bartop worn and scratched from decades of use. Lydia left sports in the dust the day she and Jackson called it quits in high school, and she hasn’t been to a bar where boxed wine was their finest vintage in, well, ever.
