Marsh Mallow Root

As these things do it's taken a few years of growing down by our wildlife pond but I've finally been able to harvest some homegrown Marsh Mallow root.

To process it I sliced and dried the root on a metal plate left above the heat lamp for my Turtle for a couple of days until it was nice and dry. I'd like to say I crushed it all by hand but I actually ran it through the blender first, those roots are tough. Finished it off by hand and sieved it to remove any hard fibers. 

To see what the original flavour of Marshmallows was before it became just a load of vanilla and gelatine the missus make some traditional Marshmallow using the powder.  It didn't set very well and tasted like sweaty teenager feet that had been dipped in muddy mushrooms. Not very nice at all, you can see why our ancestors switched to vanilla and gelatine I’m very apprehensive about using any of the root power in anything else now, maybe it'll work better in something savoury? All I can say is good job the plant has nice flowers, as you can see from my picture taken in summer.

The Marsh Mallow grows over 2m and is related to Hollyhocks and had got a bit big, hence me digging it up to divide, replant and harvest some off too. 

Just goes to show the old ways aren’t always the best ways, but you’ve got to try these things otherwise you’d never know.

-Ilima: “Are you serious? That would be incredible! Oh, this would be amazing to study!”

-Lana: “You know, it would be fun and all, but my Wishiwashi would get sad without me…”

-Kiawe: “Pass. To go into space, you need to wear upper body clothing, and I’m not ready for that level of commitment.”

-Mallow: “REALLY? OHMIGOSH OHMIGOSH OHMIGOSH OHMIGOSH-” (This continues for some minutes.)

- Sophocles: “Only if I can be the technician. Please please please!”

-Acerola: “Two words. Space ghosts.”
