Mini-review:
If there's one thing to be said about this movie, it's that it ranks among the most unique horror films I've ever seen. From the very first scene, Ana Lily Amirpour builds this misty, dream-like atmosphere that quickly gets to you. It's honestly amazing how she managed to create such a distinctive aesthetic on a clearly limited budget. The movie does feel a bit "style over substance", but the love story at its core and the characters are interesting enough to keep you engaged. That's in great part thanks to the cast, whose performances fit the film's tone to a tee. I love when a filmmaker has a clear vision for their work, and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night proves once again that Amirpour is one of those cases.
