I blame @cankersoregirl and her post from way before for convincing me to watch Gaya Sa Pelicula (Like in the Movies). OH MY. This series is definitely SOMETHING.
It was my first attempt at Pinoy stuff and wow, how gritty and rooted in reality GSP was. Right people, wrong time, all that jazz. And everything happened within one damn unit! I'm impressed with how they managed to pull off various relationships with such a limited run. Even crumbs of Sue/Vlad friendship seemed natural and well executed. Not to mention the very well-paced development of ML's relationship. Also, Vlad and his microexpressions, those smirks and pouts and heart eyes, maaan, it got me bad.
But most importantly, because I'm me so you know, WHO LET THE SOUNDTRACK BE SO GOOD. Every damn song is a jam. The way they are used in the series itself? Stunning. I absolutely adore the scene in episode 6 where Karl breaks into a dance to Ben&Ben's Ride Home. It's hands down one of the best BL moments I've ever come across. How nicely it mirrors Karl & Vlad's first encounter with Vlad drunkenly dancing to kakie's tyl.
The songs also enrich the already brilliant end credits idea. In each episode, the main characters are shown watching a movie from a fixed angle while the melody carries on. The sight of the empty apartment at the end of episode 7 combined with the powerful choirs of of Mercury's Fools could probably move a rock to tears (I believe it was one of @bengiyo's choices for fav ql songs as well).
And I haven't even mentioned my own favourite, Nasa'n Ka, Oh Luna? by MarsMango. I absolutely adore the dreamy chorus in this one (harmonies, duh). It has a Mazzy Star-like cosy melancholy to it. In the show, it is very nicely paired with Karl's after-dance panic/confusion. Chef's kiss, I have been listening to it all day today.
Oh, how glad I am I found my way to this series.
I may have accidentally launched Pinoy music autumn for myself. Oops.
