A Thomson Gazelle mother unsuccessfully tries to save its fawn from the clutches of a massive Martial Eagle in the Mara... by #birthdaygirl #wildographydudette @lskeen_grizzlyridge ・・・ #Repost “Every now and then when you are out taking pictures for whatever reason you happen upon animal behavior that you know it's that moment. While on safari in Kenya on my last day in the Maasai Mara we were up at dawn on our way to find a leopard. We stopped to capture a few images of a stork when this massive Martial Eagle swooped down over our heads and captured this well hidden newborn Thomson Gazelle as its mother browsed nearby. Immediately the mother charged and charged this massive bird trying relentlessly to free her fawn. Believe me, all of us in the safari wagon wanted to help her rescue her defenseless newborn. The hard fast rule is as a wildlife photographer you are an observer, not a participant. Being respectful of the way nature works is sometimes heart wrenching. Watching this eagle defend its prey was fascinating. If you notice it has one talon on the fawn and one talon that is reaching for the head of the mother gazelle, which it successfully grasp the mother by the head and holds on to her for a moment. She quickly withdraws from the eagle, knowing full well it could kill her as well. The one thing about this whole incident for me was sensing the determination of the mother gazelle to defend her fawn to the point of death and the eagle to defend his prey. She lingered a while knowing full well that her fawn had lost its battle to survive on the plains of the Mara. The harsh reality of nature. This moment still lingers in my mind all these months.” #Wildography #wildlifephotography #lindawinwardskeen #lindaskeen #martialeagle #eagle #gazelle #safari #omg https://www.instagram.com/p/CCCT1bAgn31/?igshid=1bc865g5i950f
